Robert Wayne Acton

 Collison – Robert Wayne Acton, 76, of Collison passed away at 3:25 PM on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on May 15, 1950, in Danville to Robert L. and Leone (Liggett) Acton. He married Deanna R. Armantrout on August 29, 1971, in Potomac. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Jessica (Ted) Hartke of Sidney, Justin (Lisa) Acton of Rossville, and Jared (Kari Fowler) Acton of Collison; and five grandchildren, Phillip, Sophia, Ava, Ella, and Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Gabriel Hartke.

After High School, Wayne went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Education from Illinois State University. His career was varied but always centered around his vast knowledge of the agricultural industry. Wayne shared this passion as an Ag Teacher at Oakwood High School before moving to livestock and ag equipment sales. He also operated the family farm where they specialized in raising Beefalo cattle. Wayne served as the Vice President of the American Beefalo Association due to his expertise with the breed. As a stroke survivor, Wayne volunteered as a lobbyist for the American Heart Association to support improved treatment options for stroke patients. He also worked in real estate as a realtor and broker.

Wayne loved the community he lived in and served as the Pilot Township Clerk and on the Middlefork Pilot Multi-Township Assessment District Board. He was a lifetime member of the Collison United Methodist Church and was recently honored as a 50-year member of the Collison Masonic Lodge. Music was also a very important part of Wayne’s life. With his band, Latigo, and other bands he performed with such as the Tumble Weeds and Yesterday’s Country, he played at numerous events such as the CU Arts Festival, several Cowboy Country Churches, and he organized outdoor concerts during the summer months at the Collison Masonic Lodge. He was a long-time Lions Club member and organizer of their annual “Potomac Goes Country” music show and later their “Let’s go Country” music shows. He received multiple songwriting awards and recognitions and a music video award and was President of the Illinois Group in the North America Country Music Associations International (NACMAI). He invested his time and support in grade school music programs to pass his love of music on to future generations.

Most of all, Wayne loved his family and enjoyed being present with them whenever he could. He will be missed dearly by them all.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Wayne Acton will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Pilot Township Community Building in Collison, IL with visitation prior to the service held from 1:30-3:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to gather for a dinner and additional time for visitation from 5:00-8:00 pm that same evening. He will be laid to rest at Collison Cemetery. Cremation has been entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Jeffrey Lynn Fisher

 TOLONO — Jeffrey Lynn Fisher, 64, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and lifelong farmer, passed away Friday (March 6, 2026) surrounded by the love of his family.

His life was defined by faith, hard work and a deep commitment to the people he cherished.

Jeff is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Susie, whom he met during his time at Illinois State University. Their love began on campus and grew into a lifetime partnership filled with devotion, laughter and unwavering support. Together, they raised four children — Stacy, Corinne (Paul), Jordan (Kodey) and Carson — each of whom brought him immense pride. Jeff was also blessed with six grandchildren, Caroline, Noah, Daisy, Grant, Lyndie and Rylee, who were the light of his life.

He is also survived by his parents, Gary Fisher (Linda) and Marcia Fisher; brother, Brian; sister, Julie; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, who loved him dearly. Jeff also leaves behind many lifelong friends who remain with us today, each carrying memories of his kindness, humor and steady presence.

A 1979 graduate of Unity High School, Jeff continued his education at Illinois State University before returning home to pursue his lifelong calling — farming. He was a daily farmer in every sense, tending the land with dedication and integrity. His passion for agriculture extended into service as an active member of the Farm Bureau, the Young Farmers Committee and the American Quarter Horse Association.

Jeff’s faith guided him throughout his life. He was a committed member of the Tolono Presbyterian Church, where he found fellowship and purpose. He also served proudly in the Masonic Lodge, contributing his time and leadership to an organization he deeply respected.

Jeff found his greatest joy outdoors — whether working the fields, caring for his horses or spending time with his family under the open sky. His gentle spirit, steady presence and quiet strength touched everyone who knew him.

Visitation will be at Freese Funeral Home, Tolono, on Thursday, March 12, from 4 to 7p.m. Masonic rites will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will follow on Friday, March 13, at 11 a.m., at Tolono Presbyterian Church. His legacy lives on in the family he adored, the land he nurtured, the friends who continue to honor his memory, and the countless lives he impacted with kindness and integrity.

Nathaniel Alan Price

Nathaniel Alan “Nate” Price, 41, of St. Joseph, IL passed away at 11:31 AM on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Nate was born on October 6, 1984 in Mattoon, IL. He was the son of Timothy Alan and Penny Darlene (Navel) Price.

He is survived by two children, Clowie Taylor Price and Jac Austin Price of St. Joseph, IL, his parents, Tim and Penny Price of Ogden, IL, one sister, Lindsay Hesselmann and her husband Greg of St. Joseph, IL, and a nephew, Brayden Hesselmann of St. Joseph, IL.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Danille “Dana” Price, his paternal grandparents, Bill and Billie Price, and his maternal grandparents, Allen and Nancy Navel.

Nate proudly served in the United States Marines, completing one tour in Iraq and one tour in Afghanistan.

He was a dedicated father who was very close to his children and loved them dearly.

Richard "Dick" Burwell

 Richard “Dick” Burwell, 76 of St Joseph, IL went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday December 26, 2025, at 7:55pm at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL. Dick was born March  24, 1949 in Urbana, IL, first son of William Ardie and Helen Marie (Perkins) Burwell. They preceded him in death.

Dick married the love of his life, Paula Hartrick on June 27, 1971, at University Place Christian Church, Champaign, IL. They shared 54+ years of marriage.

Dick graduated from Urbana High School and attended Parkland College. He worked  in Computer Science at the University of Illinois, retiring December 31, 2001. He was a Mason, being a member of the St Joseph Masonic Lodge 970. He was a Past Master and, like his father before him, was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Valley of Danville.

He was an avid Sci-Fi fan and collector and enjoyed time traveling with Paula and had some very memorable trips with his parents and his brother and wife Pam, as well as a number of close friends over the years.

Dick is survived by his wife Paula (Hartrick) Burwell, brother Allen (Pam) Burwell of South Daytona, FL, sister Teresa (Tom) Twigg of Thomasboro, IL and several nephews, nieces and great nieces, along with many extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Friday January 2, 2026, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 Philo Road, Urbana, IL, with Visitation starting at 12:30 pm, Masonic Rites will be at 1:15 pm by the St Joseph Lodge 970. Reverend Jon Scott from River Valley Church of Christ will officiate and burial will follow at Mt Olive Cemetery in Mayview, IL.

Richard Dean "Dick" Reinhold

 
URBANA - Richard Dean "Dick" Reinhold, 90, of Urbana passed away Tuesday (Sept. 9, 2025) at home with his family.

Richard was born on June 26, 1935, in Urbana, to William and Rosa (Hren) Reinhold.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, Katherine (Entler), Frederick, Walter, Edward, Robert, Gene and Sharon.

He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Betty Jean (Johnson); daughter, Kelly (John) Vogel of Royal; son, Jeff (Brenda) Reinhold of Champaign; and beloved granddaughters, Sara (Devin) McDermand of Urbana and Megan Reinhold of Clinton. He also leaves behind many "kids" he loved as his own throughout the years, including Brian, Nicholas, Lauren, Rachel and Robin.

Graduating from Urbana High School in 1955, Richard was a standout wrestler and football player. He won three letters in football and two in wrestling. He was a two-time state qualifier in wrestling. As a junior, Richard was awarded the Pittman Memorial Football Award for outstanding linebacker of the year and was All-State on the Chicago Sun Times team as a senior offensive guard. He received a football scholarship to the University of Illinois and married his high school sweetheart, Betty, on Dec. 3, 1955. Due to continued military presence after the Korean War's armistice, he was not able to take the field with the Illini and instead served in the Army as an MP in Korea until 1959. In 1983, he was inducted into the Urbana High Sports Hall of Fame.

Richard was employed with Northern Illinois Water Corp for 42 years before retiring and also worked as the press-box elevator operator at gate 18 in Memorial Stadium, until its reconstruction in 2008. He never missed an Illini home game and enjoyed his time with the reporters and box owners.

Richard was a 50-year member of the St. Joseph Freemason Lodge No. 970 A.F. & A.M., a St. Joseph Webelos Pack Leader, and longtime coach of the Champaign Wild Cats pee-wee football team. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, riding his bicycle, and truly lived each day to its fullest.

A memorial service with honors will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 18, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 Philo Road, Urbana, with the Rev. Lutz Braunig officiating. Visitation will be prior to the memorial service, beginning at 10 a.m. Cremation rites have been accorded.

James Russell "Jim" Salrin

 Fairmount, Illinois – James Russell “Jim” Salrin, 94, of Fairmount, Illinois, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, at the Oaks Manor in Oakland, Illinois.

James was born November 15, 1930, in Sidell, Illinois, the son of Russell and Ethel Burgett Salrin. He married Annabelle Williams on March 18, 1951, in Fairmount, Illinois. She preceded him in death on September 21, 2023. Survivors include: one son: Doug Salrin of Fairmount, Illinois; one daughter: Judy (Frank) Lucas of Sidell, Illinois; two brothers: Richard Salrin of Oakwood, Illinois and Ed Salrin of Arkansas; three grandchildren: Heide (Rob) Knoebel, Haley (Clint) McQueen, and C.J. Lucas; and seven great grandchildren: Owen Knoebel, Eian Knoebel, Calvin Lucas, Penalope Lucas, Cooper McQueen, Adlee McQueen, and Anna McQueen. He was preceded in death by one sister: Josephine Salrin.

James served in the US Army was a former Fairmount, Illinois Postmaster and had worked for Hyster for 35 years. He was a member of New Hope Community Church. He was a 33rd degree Mason and was a member of the Catlin Masonic Lodge as well as Danville Consistory. Jim & Annabelle enjoyed square dancing and their euchre card group. He liked playing horseshoe pitching and trap shooting. In later years, Jim became quite accomplished at jig saw puzzles.

Funeral services at 11 am on Friday August 29, 2025, at New Hope Community Church in Fairmount, with Pastor Ron Weishaar officiating. Burial in Davis Cemetery west of Fairmount. Visitation is from 10 am till service time on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the church with Masonic rites at 10:55 am. Memorials may be made to New Hope Community Church or Catlin Masonic Lodge. Ricky K. Casteel

Ricky K. Casteel, age 78, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 12:52 PM – Friday, August 23, 2024, 
at his home.

Ricky was born on February 18, 1946, in Danville, Illinois, the son of George Kenton and Eunice (McClellan) Casteel of Oakwood, Illinois.  He attended school in Oakwood.  Following high school, Ricky entered the service, serving in the United States Air Force from November 12, 1965, until his honorable discharge on November 11, 1969.  While serving in Aero Space Ground Maintenance, he was stationed at Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Kirkland AFB in New Mexico, Wheelus AFB in Libya, Egypt and McGuire AFB in Maryland.  

Ricky was united in marriage to Joan Schuch on July 26, 1970, at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Urbana, Illinois.  A marriage which lasted over 54 years!  To this union was born a son Randy Kenton, wife Melissa (Tucker) Casteel, and they presented to them their favorite granddaughter Elizabeth Karen (Miss Ellie).  Grandpa’s favorite grandchild!!!

Ricky was a musician from the age of 13, until his passing.  He played in many country and western bands, and some of the venues included the Rose Bowl in Urbana, The Old Mill Inn in Newton, and Poor Richards in Olney.

Ricky worked in major appliance repair and heating and cooling repair.  He worked at Carle Foundation Hospital Refrigeration in Maintenance, General Electric Major Appliance Repair and Champaign County Maintenance, to name a few.

Ricky was active in the American Legion, as a member of Oakwood Post #610 in Oakwood, Illinois; Urbana Post #71 in Urbana, Illinois; St Joseph Post #634 in St Joseph, Illinois.  He served on the board of the Boy Scout Troop 40 in St Joseph, Illinois.

Ricky was a member of the Masons, joining at Ogden Lodge #754 and then moving to Newton Masonic Lodge #216.  He was a member of the Valley of Danville Scottish Rite where he was honored to receive the Meritorious Service Award and Mason of the Year.  He was also Assistant Coordinator of the Southern District for the Illinois Child Identification Program, now the Illinois Masonic Family Program.

Ricky is loved and will be missed by his family and friends.

Timothy Gene Morse

 
Timothy Gene Morse, known to everyone as Tim, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024, in Urbana, Illinois, at the age of 61. Born on September 28, 1962, in Urbana, Tim was a lifelong resident of Champaign County and a prominent figure in the business community.

Tim graduated from Unity High School and pursued higher education at Illinois State University, studying criminal justice. Tim met his love, Nancy McPhee in 1983, married in 1985 until their divorce in 2013.
Tim started working in the heating and air-conditioning industry, helping to grow Morse Heating and Air-Conditioning with his father, William in 1983 and later establishing Morse Mechanical in 2008, where he continued to work with his son, Alex until his passing.

Beyond his professional achievements, Tim was known for his charismatic and energetic personality. A sedulous and hardworking individual, he loved his family deeply and was always there to support his friends and colleagues.  Tim never shied away from challenges and was admired for his perseverance and never-give-up attitude. This quality of Tim kept him with us for 9 more months following a stage 4 diagnosis of kidney cancer.

Tim was a master at the grill, known for his smoked meats and homemade barbecue sauces, which he joyously prepared for his family, especially his son. His passion for cooking and preparing food was evident to all who knew him.

Tim is survived by his children, Alex Morse (Justina) , Kalene Morse (Zach Johnson); his mother, Barbara Morse; siblings, William “Billy Joe” Morse, Bonnie Morse McArthur(Joel) , Julie Morse Cary (Jack) and numerous nieces and nephews; Grandchildren, Nora Morse and Elijah Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father, William “Bill” Morse.

Services will be held at Freese Funeral Home, 202 W Main St, Sidney, IL 61877. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 21st, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Masonic and traditional service. Lunch will be provided at Countryside United Methodist Church,1807 County Rd 1000N Urbana IL 61802, following the service.

Robert "Bob" Allen

 
Robert “Bob” Allen, 85, of Oakwood, Illinois, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.

He was born August 14, 1938, in Homer, Illinois, son of the late Ruth Allen.

Bob married Mary Lou Holycross on October 18, 1959, in Oakwood, Illinois and she survives.

Also surviving are his daughters: Cindy (Jeff) Acton of Danville and Susan (Doug) Canfield of Fayetteville, Arkansas; his grandchildren: Katie (Derek) Davis, Kelly (Andrew) Kaufmann, Cole (Megan) Acton, Shane Canfield and Stephanie (Kurt) Stinnett; and four great-grandchildren. Liyah, Milo and Neil Kaufmann and Chandler Stinnett.

Along with his mother, Bob was preceded in death by one daughter: Cheryl Lynn and two sisters: Barbara and Patricia Allen.

Bob attended and made many new friends at Muncie Baptist church.  He worked for Facilities & Services at the University of Illinois in Steam Distribution for 30 years.  He was a founding member of the Homer Historical Society and served on the inaugural board as Treasurer.  He served on the Board of Education for the Homer School District for many years, including a time as board President.  He also received recognition for his 50 years of service and membership as a Master Mason. Bob enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and playing cards with his family and friends. He never failed to attend his family member's countless events and loved landing deals at flea markets and garage sales, always looking to add cap guns and pocketknives to his collections. Bob will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be from 9AM-11AM on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Homes Oakwood Chapel 105 E South Main Street in Oakwood. A Celebration of Life for Bob will be held at 11AM on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the funeral home in Oakwood. Masonic rites will begin at 10:45AM. Burial will follow at GAR Cemetery in Homer.

Don Hodgson

 

Homer, Illinois - Don Hodgson, 97, well known Homer area farmer & electrician, passed away at 6:09 pm on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at his home.

Don was born November 22, 1926, in Champaign, Illinois to Frank B. & Hazel Womacks Hodgson. Don married Tamela Sue Childers on June 11, 1988, in Odgen, Illinois. Tammy survives as well as, three sons: Steve (Sue) Hodgson of Belleville, Illinois, Mike (Nancy) Hodgson of St. Joseph, Illinois, and David Hodgson of Homer, Illinois; one daughter: Donna (Bruce) Silcox of Clearwater, Florida; seven grandchildren:  Laura, Christopher, Kristina, Heather, Brandon, Andrea, and Kyle; thirteen great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Don was preceded in death by one son: Mark Hodgson.

Don was engaged in farming and operated Don’s Electric along with Don Morgan. He served on the Odgen school board for 45 years as well as working for a time at Don’s Auto Center in Homer. He was a member of the Homer Masonic Lodge # 190, Danville Consistory, Scottish Rite Valley of Danville, Ansar Shrine, Illini Shrine Club, and Farm Bureau. Don especially enjoyed coffee with his friends and bowling.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Homer, Illinois with Pastor John McIntosh officiating. Inurnment will follow in the GAR Cemetery in Homer. Visitation is from 10:30 am until service time at the United Methodist Church. William (Bill) H. Morse

 

William (Bill) H. Morse, 82, of Sidney, IL, took his last fishing trip to the big lake in the sky on March 12, 2023.  Bill was born on November 21, 1940 to Ira and Lorraine Morse, attended Taylorville schools and graduated Villa Grove High School in 1958.  Bill married his high school sweetheart Barbara Crouse Morse in 1960 and they lived primarily in Sidney Illinois where they had a family of four children:  William J. Morse, Timothy Morse, Julie Morse Cary (Jack Sr.), and Bonnie Morse McArthur (Joel).  

Retiring from a 30 year career at the University of Illinois, Bill was a lead operating engineer at Abbott Power plant. He also founded and owned Morse Heating and Air Conditioning. Bill was engaged in the community as President and member of the Unit 7 school board,  member and Past Master of the Sidney Masonic Lodge, a 32nd degree Mason for 38 years, and an Ansar Shriner.  Sidney United Methodist Church was an important part of Bill’s life and he helped build and relocate the church.  In his retirement, Bill and Barb traveled the Southwest fishing, camping, and boating and then enjoyed their Florida lake home.  

Preceding Bill in death are his parents Ira and Lorraine, his sister Marlana Hutchinson, and several in-laws from the Crouse family.   William is survived by his wife, Barbara, his four children, and seven grandchildren:  Alex Morse (Justina), Kalene Morse (Zac), Jenna Cary, Jack Cary, Jr., Lyndsay McArthur, Lauryn McArthur, Jacob McArthur, and two great grandchildren:  Elijah and Nora, along with his step brother Joe Morse (Mariah) and in-laws, nieces and nephews.  

Services will be on Saturday, March 18th at Countryside United Methodist Church, 1807 County Road 1000 North, Urbana, IL. Visitation is from 1:30 pm to 3 pm with funeral and Masonic rights to follow.  Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

Jackie Dean Burton

 Jackie Dean Burton, 92, Urbana, formerly of Homer, went to his heavenly home at 10:04 A.M. on Saturday March 26, 2022 at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center surrounded by family.

 Jack was born outside of Allerton to Floatus and Mary (Floyd) Burton on January 31, 1930 and was the ninth of ten children.

 Jack graduated from Homer High School in 1948. He was a star softball and basketball athlete and was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.

 He married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Lee Lewis, on November 5, 1949. She preceded him in death on May 27, 1970. Together they had four children that survive; Jeff (Lee) Burton, Little Elm, TX, Lori (Garry) Rushing, Homer, Jerry (April) Burton, South Bend, IN, and Stan (Susan) Burton, Champaign.

 He married Mary Jane (McElyea) Peters on October 3, 1971. She survives. This union brought another daughter into the family, Crystal Jane Peters.

 Jack was a life member of the Homer American Legion Post 290, a member of S.A.L. Squadron 290, a member of the Homer Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Horseshoe Club of Danville. He also served on the Homer Town Board and Homer Fire Department.

 
Jack loved participating in and watching sports and that love was passed on to his children. He was an avid Fighting Illini and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He served as the Commissioner of the Homer Youth Baseball League and coached the Homer American Legion Post 290 baseball team for several years.

 Jack was a member of the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 and served during the Korean War. He retired from Chanute Air Force Base where he was the supervisor of the hydraulics shop for a number of years.

 Jack was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Millard Burton, Bess Sigmon, Mayo Warters, Jewel Berry, Doyle Burton, Eula Brown, Rose Kizer, Ruth Walters and Maxine Umbarger. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Crystal Peters Hudson and grandson Anthony Burton.

 He is survived by eleven grandchildren; Ginger (Brian) Laws, Jason (Tiffany) Rushing, Carly (Scott) Sallay, Lindsay Burton, Josh (Adrienne) Hudson, Jared (Kierra) Burton, Paul Burton, Madison Burton, Stephanie Burton, Veronica Burton, and Nicolette Burton. He is also survived by eleven great grandchildren, son-in-law Glenn Hudson, and many nieces and nephews.

 Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday April 1, 2022 at Freese Funeral Home 302 E. Grand Ave. St. Joseph. Rev.  C.W.Greer and Rev. Heju Nam will officiate. Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery, Homer. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M.-- 3:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

 Memorial donations can be made to the Homer American Legion Post 290 or the Homer American Legion Auxiliary Unit 290.
