HOMER – Opal Marjorie Kiest, 90, of Homer, passed away at 9:26 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, at the Rehabilitation Center in Newman, IL.
There will be a funeral service at noon Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at Kirby Funeral Home, 708 S. Main St., Homer. Pastor C.W. Greer will officiate. Burial will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Homer. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Kiest was born Sept. 5, 1925, in DeLand, IL, the daughter of Crave Owen and Flora Kelly Burton Dalton. She married Jack Kiest on Aug. 18, 1966, in Danville, IL. He passed away on Dec. 20, 2004. Survivors include three daughters, Carol Rogers of Homer, IL, Sharon Wisehart of Homer, IL, and Janie White of Villa Grove, IL; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; six stepchildren, Debbie, Karen, Jackie, Betty, Robert and Darrel; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Opal was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.
She was baptized in and a former member of the Homer Church of Christ. Opal enjoyed cooking, fishing, and camping. She also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
