David J. Bosch

David J Bosch, 62, of Broadlands, IL, left this world way too soon on December 23, 2024, when his heart suddenly stopped in an ambulance.  He left Traci, his wife of 37 years, and his sons and daughters-in-law, Jacob (Lauren) and Clayton (Larissa), in shock, lost, and in grief.  He was so proud of his sons and taught them everything in life.  He taught them how to love and laugh.  He taught them to build and repair homes, and to repair engines and farm equipment.  They called him often just to chat or to get a second opinion on any given subject.  Most of all, he taught them to love and honor God.

Dave left behind two beautiful grandbabies that filled his heart with joy.  His phone was full of pictures of Scarlett and Maxwell.  He loved to hear them say “Hi Papa”.  He left behind his mother and stepfather Vera and Don Maase.  He left his siblings and spouses, Mark (Marsha) Bosch, Linda (Rudy) Huber, and Robert (Tanya) Bosch.  He left his mother-in-law, Edna Fruhling, and Traci’s siblings, Tami (Mike) Fruhling-Voges, Teri (Tim) Frerichs, and Trini (Fred) Fruhling-Bensyl.  Dave left many nieces and nephews.  He will be missed so much by all.

Dave loved life and gave himself in every way.  He was a baseball coach, boy scout leader, and booster club member.  He was on the Broadlands-Longview Fire Protection District for 10 years, and recently rejoined as a Trustee.  He was on the Heritage School Board for 16 years, ending as President of the Board.  He was Trustee for Raymond Township and just recently refiled to run again.  He loved being active in the I & I Antique Tractor and Gas Engine Club and was Co-Vice President.  He was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister for Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and prepared the church for Mass every Sunday.  He loved meeting and talking to people and could not go anywhere without running into someone he knew.

Dave graduated from ABL High School in Broadlands and from Parkland College in Champaign.  He worked for Allerton Implement Company in Allerton until they closed, starting as a mechanic and ending in sales.  After AIC closed, a kind-hearted man named Norman Duitsman asked Dave to join his staff at Shaff Implement.  Dave loved every minute of selling New Holland equipment and Walker lawn mowers, but he was starting to mention retirement and future plans more often.  Dave bled “Green” and collected antique John Deere equipment.  He could tell his boys everything about a John Deere tractor and quizzed them often to make sure they remembered the facts.  However, his blood was starting to become “Bluer” after attending New Holland conferences to learn more about their tractors and combines.

Dave is now joining his loved ones in Heaven, including his caring father and stepmother, William and Jane Bosch, his beloved Aunt Rita Bosch, and his wonderful father-in-law, Donald Fruhling.  We cannot believe we are having to write this.  He will truly be missed in this world and will be thought of and talked to in Heaven every day.  Dave was the most loving, laid-back husband and father.  He was our best friend.

A Celebration of Life and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Philo, IL  at 10:30 A.M. Monday December 30, 2024. Fr. Keith Walder will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Bongard, IL.  Visitation will be at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Philo on Sunday from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers mass intentions may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church.

Georgia Puckett Nelson

Longtime Abilene resident Georgia Nelson died Dec. 16, at her daughter's home in Trophy Club, Texas, after an extended illness. She was 96.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 3rd, from 6:30-8:00 pm at Hamil Family Funeral Home. A memorial service is planned Jan. 4 at 1:00 pm, at Hillcrest Church of Christ, followed by burial at Elmwood Memorial Park. All are welcome, because welcome was Georgia's special gift, one she came by naturally.

Born Feb. 23, 1928, in St. Joseph, Illinois, Georgia was the fifth of seven children of Marie and Clyde Puckett. From a very young age, her mother was a single mom raising six children. They operated a home laundry where each family member did their part. Marie regularly invited airmen over for Sunday lunch, in part because she had five daughters. One of those guests, Ralph Nelson, became a regular. He and Georgia married June 6, 1946, the day after she graduated from Urbana High School, and the couple returned to his native Texas.

There, they spent the remainder of their life together and raised their three children - James, Lora and Jeff - mostly in Abilene, but in earlier years in Waco, Cameron and Denison.

Although she spent ten years as a computer operator at Abilene Christian University and ten at Strategis Property Tax Management, the focus of her life was her family. She was a regular room mother, cub scout leader, cinnamon roll baker and cook who opened her home with warmth and hospitality to her children's friends, extended family and the family's many friends at Hillcrest Church of Christ where Ralph served as an elder. Together they especially enjoyed serving widows and others in need.

The family's dining room table seated 18 and many Sundays every seat was filled, often with college students. Georgia's quiet, "warm sugar smile" as her granddaughter described it, welcomed everyone.

In addition to hosting, cooking and baking she loved playing 42 and 84 with friends. In her later years she especially enjoyed her walking "buddies" and a group of friends who called themselves "The Steel Magnolias."

And as her family grew to include seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, she especially enjoyed preparing their favorite foods.

She is remembered as a quiet spiritual leader who taught her children that true joy comes from serving.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings and her husband of 60 years. She is survived by one brother, Jim Puckett of Midland, Michigan, and by her children, James and Donna Nelson of Lucas; Lora and Dick McGinn of Trophy Club; and Jeff and Carol Nelson of Abilene.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren: Kevin and Emily Nelson, Keith and Mitzi Nelson, Lindsay Nelson, Garrett and Kate McGinn, Tiffany and Joel Green, Christopher Nelson, and Nataleigh and Derrick Comparan. Her great grandchildren are Grace, Colt, Caleb and Makenzi Nelson, Max and Charlie McGinn, Noelle and Nora Green, and Eloise Comparan.

In lieu of flowers, please honor her memory through gifts to Zambia Missions, which she supported for many years at

Roger was born at Burnham City Hospital in Champaign on February 13, 1934, to Frank Mason and Gladys “Jane” (Dallas) Corray. Roger married Judith Corray in Urbana on October 26, 1957. The couple lived in Seattle, WA, where Roger worked for Boeing before returning to Urbana in 1959.

Shannon Corray of Charleston; brother Robert Corray of St. Joseph; and sister Norma Pittman of Loda (a blessing when his father remarried in 1950). Born on March 5, 1959, Steve devoted himself to service in both his personal and professional life. Alongside his wife, Marie Hoveln, he co-founded the local chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit organization that builds and delivers beds to children in need in the community. Previously, he served in the PONY baseball league for over 20 years as a field director.
