Laura L. (Peck) Swearingen

 


Laura L. (Peck) Swearingen, 96, of Ankeny IA, formerly of St. Joseph, IL, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, in Ankeny, IA.

A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd.)

Laura Swearingen was born April 18, 1929, in Peoria, IL, the daughter of Leo and MaryBeth Leroy Peck. She married Richard “Dick” Swearingen on February 17, 1951, in Farmer City, IL.

Dick preceded her in death on June 5, 1999. She is also predeceased by her parents; brothers and their wives, Eddie (Helen) Peck, and Jim (Nancy) Peck; and one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Swearingen.

Laura is survived by two sons, Jeff Swearingen of Council Bluffs, IA, and Jim Swearingen of St. Joseph, IL; two daughters, Jaci (Dennis) Oexmann of Ankeny, IA, and Jeri (Byron) Paddock of Jonesborough, TN; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Laura graduated from Moore Township High School in Farmer City, IL, in 1946. Laura attended Millikin University in Decatur, IL, and belonged to a sorority there. Laura was employed many years as an accountant at Carter’s Mayflower Moving & Storage/Furniture/Travel in Urbana, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to DMARC, which is a program that was near and dear to Laura’s heart and one she participated in while living in Ankeny.
