Dorene Pflugmacher, 86, passed away on Saturday, June 20. Dorene was born September 16, 1939, the daughter of George and Wilma Sjoken. She married Robert Pflugmacher on January 11, 1959. They have three children: Michael (Lori), Jon Allen (deceased), and Vonda (Todd) Jenkins, along with seven grandchildren: Shanan (Carlos) Meza, Janna (Steven Russell) Pflugmacher, Brandan (De’Monique Brown) Pflugmacher, Savanna (Aveek Kapat) Pflugmacher, Nathan (Grace Stalter) Pflugmacher, Alyson (Micky) Mann, and Taylor (Blake) Bertolino and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Karen Flessner and Glenda (Dave) Amborn and two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Frerichs and Alvina Pflugmacher.
Dorene farmed with Robert for many years. She also worked more than 20 years for Christie Clinic—first in Rantoul and then in Champaign. She was active with the Fithian Women’s Club for a time and taught Sunday School, Bible School, and served on the council at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Royal.
Robert and Dorene were in a card club for years. They loved the club and the lifelong friendships that it created.
Dorene was happiest when she was by Robert’s side. She also loved to bake, can, sew, and craft. The grandkids fondly remember making preserves, applesauce, and cinnamon rolls with Grandma. She had a special touch with plants and flowers inside and out.
Dorene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, infant son, Jon Allen, her sister, LaVonne, and her brother, Bill.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday June 27, 2026 at St. John Lutheran Church, Royal. Pastor Ryan Sage officiating. Burial will be in Kopmann Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the church.
