Juanita L. Schweineke

VILLA GROVE – Juanita L. Schweineke, 94, of Villa Grove died at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 29, 2015) at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Broadlands, with the Rev. John Sharp officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Broadlands. Joines Funeral Home, Illinois 130 South, Villa Grove, is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Schweineke was born March 7, 1921, in Broadlands, a daughter of John Albert and Hannah C Benschneider Luth. She married Ralph Schweineke on Sept. 18, 1940, in Broadlands. He died March 15, 2012.

Surviving are three daughters, Roxie (Wayne) Sage of Ogden, Nancy (Herbert) Aden of Newman and Jody Farmer of Broadlands; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Schweineke was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother and a grandson, Aaron Farmer.

Juanita was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Broadlands, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid, taught Sunday School and Bible School, and was a great help with the church ice cream socials. She farmed with her husband Ralph in the area for many years. Her love was her family and keeping her house clean.

Opal Marjorie Kiest

HOMER – Opal Marjorie Kiest, 90, of Homer, passed away at 9:26 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, at the Rehabilitation Center in Newman, IL.

There will be a funeral service at noon Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at Kirby Funeral Home, 708 S. Main St., Homer. Pastor C.W. Greer will officiate. Burial will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Homer. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kiest was born Sept. 5, 1925, in DeLand, IL, the daughter of Crave Owen and Flora Kelly Burton Dalton. She married Jack Kiest on Aug. 18, 1966, in Danville, IL. He passed away on Dec. 20, 2004. Survivors include three daughters, Carol Rogers of Homer, IL, Sharon Wisehart of Homer, IL, and Janie White of Villa Grove, IL; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; six stepchildren, Debbie, Karen, Jackie, Betty, Robert and Darrel; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Opal was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.

She was baptized in and a former member of the Homer Church of Christ. Opal enjoyed cooking, fishing, and camping. She also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Jean Marriott

URBANA – Evelyn Jean Marriott, 94, of Urbana died at 10 a.m. Friday (Dec. 25, 2015) at home.

She was born on Feb. 25, 1921, on a farm between Paxton and Loda. She was the next-to-youngest of nine children born to Andrew Jackson and Clara Russell King.

She married David Richard Marriott on Dec. 17, 1939. They farmed in the townships of Somer and Stanton all their married life, except for a short time in Indiana.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana, with the Rev. Steve Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Yearsley Cemetery in rural Urbana. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Evelyn and Richard were the proud parents of five children, Jacqueline (Phil) Nigg, David (Ann) Marriott, Joseph (Jane) Marriott, Debra (David) Knight and Jeffre (Dodie) Marriott; and 11 grandchildren, Randell Nigg, JoEllen Nigg Schultz, Roy Nigg, Emily and Adam Marriott, Levi and John Marriott, Joshua and Nathan Knight, and Tess and Elijah Marriott.

There are 13 great-grandchildren: Eddie Schultz, Chelsea Schultz Tobin, Austen Schultz, Ava and Eliza Zimmermann, Isabella and William Smith, Jasper and Arlo Joe Marriott, Lucas and Madilyn Knight, Penelope and Simone Marriott.

Evelyn also has two great-great-granddaughters, Audrey and Evelyn Schultz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, A.J. and Clara King; her husband, David Richard Marriott; her brothers, Ray, Maurice, Lester, Robert and John King; her sisters, Helen Danseizer, Mildred Stevens and Eva King; and one grandchild, Randell Nigg.

Besides Evelyn helping her husband farm and raising five children, she worked out of the home in later years at Follett's Book Store on the campus of the University of Illinois.

After that, she worked at the Agronomy Department at the UI, from which she retired in 1986. Evelyn also served as a Democrat election judge in Somer and Stanton townships for many years.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church, Urbana, the Neighborhood Social Club, and at one time served as officer of the Urbana Football Parents Association.

Evelyn loved being with her family and her many close friends, traveling, canoeing, hiking and living life to the fullest. Her favorite pastimes were reading and playing cards.

She was always ready and willing to lend a hand on any project that friend or family presented, whether it be wallpapering, motor work, roofing or anything in between.

Evelyn was loved by many and will be missed by many.

William F. Wiese

NAPLES, Fla. – William F. Wiese, 83, of Naples, Fla., passed away on Saturday (Dec. 19, 2015).

He is survived by his wife, Beth; his children, Anderson Wiese, Rachel Wiese, Donald Kidd and Lisa Kidd; and his grandson, Adrian Bettridge-Wiese.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date.

David Fitch

OGDEN – David Fitch, 70, of Ogden passed away at 11:45 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 19, 2015) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, with the Rev. Michael Meener officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Penfield. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the funeral home.

David was born on April 30, 1945, at Clay City, Ill., the son of Jonathan and Beulah Hough Fitch. He married Caroline Frye on April 8, 1967, at Philo. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Anita (Dan) Wright, Duane (Tracie) Fitch and Christy (Bobby) Bowser, all of Ogden; grandchildren, Jason (Britney) Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Marty Wright, Mitchell Wright, Spencer Fitch, Parker Fitch, Colton Bowser and Calyn Bowser; two great-grandchildren, Brady and Evynn Johnson; one brother, Ron Fitch of Mount Carmel; and two sisters, Karen (Bob) Kilby of Kinmundy and Barbara (David) Dennis of Flora.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Roy Dale, Lyle, Jerry, Lowell, Kenny and Raymond Fitch.

David was a veteran of the National Guard. David worked construction for 45 years.

He was a member of the Royal American Legion and served on the Ogden Zoning Board.

He enjoyed camping, spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Donald E. McKinney

ST. JOSEPH – Donald E. McKinney passed away at 1:50 p.m. Friday (Dec. 11, 2015) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana with his wife, son, family and friends by his side.

Donald was born on March 5, 1967, in Seattle, Wash. He was adopted by Bruce McKinney and Linda Short at birth. He graduated from Michigan City High School in 1985 and then attended DePauw University, where he graduated with a major in computer science.

At DePauw, he met his future wife, Susan Conger. They dated until May 1989 when they got married after Don completed his degree and Susan completed her master's degree. They settled in Champaign County after the wedding, first in Champaign, then in St. Joseph. Donald enjoyed living in St. Joseph and being "the librarian's husband."

He was den leader and cubmaster in Pack 40; he was committee chairman and assistant scoutmaster for Troop 79 Boy Scouts of America. Donald had many interests that he and his wife enjoyed together. They attended and served at the Church of Christ in St. Joseph, where he had served as Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, deacon in charge of ushers and a youth group sponsor.

He was a member of St. Joseph Lodge 970 and Ogden Lodge 754 AF&AM. He was a member of the Valley of Danville, Scottish Rite; York Rite Independent Bodies. He was royal patron of Champaign-Urbana Court 17, Order of the Amaranth; and grand associate patron and a past grand royal patron of the Grand Court of Illinois, Order of the Amaranth. He was worthy patron and a past patron of Delmar D. Darrah Chapter 1021, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a past watchman of shepherds, Hope Shrine 106.

Donald was an avid tabletop and computer gamer and was chairman of the Winter War Gaming Convention for 22 years. In his spare time, he collaborated with Marc Miller on Traveller, a science fiction role-playing game, and had written one book and was in the process of writing two other books.

Donald is survived by his wife, Susan, and his son, Michael, with whom he enjoyed political discussions; his parents; siblings; and a niece and two nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Amaranth Diabetes Foundation.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, with Pastor Vinny Santanelli officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Mayview. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday with Masonic services at 7 p.m. and Order of Amaranth service at 7:30 p.m.

James Thomas Coyne

HOMER – James Thomas Coyne, 85, of Homer passed away at 11:11 p.m. Friday (Dec. 11, 2015) at his home.

There will be a memorial service at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at Kirby Funeral Home, 708 S. Main St., Homer. Pastor Tony Smith will officiate. There is no visitation.

Mr. Coyne was born on April 28, 1930, in Covington, Ky., a son of Michael and Ollie Mae Coyne. He married Bernadine Coleman on March 31, 1950. She passed away on May 2, 2014.

Survivors include 10 children, Vicki (Doug) McCafferty of Edgewood, Ky., Lisa (Butch) Baker of Graham, N.C., Patty Price of Homer, Richard (Fran) Coyne of Champaign, Roger (Laura) Coyne of Bloomington, Penny (Darrel) Johnson of Urbana, Becky (Jay) Meyer of McLean, Edward (Melissa) Coyne of Mahomet, Billy (Kim) Coyne of St. Joseph and James Thomas Coyne II of Homer. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

James was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Mr. Coyne served in the Army from 1949-1952 during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Vesuvius in Champaign as a consultant. He retired in 1995 but continued to consult for them until May 2015.
