Estil was a member of CrossRoads Christian Church in Danville. He graduated from Robinson High School in 1943, where he was on the football, wrestling and track teams. He served as a radio technician in the U.S. Navy twice, first during World War II and then during the Korean War. Estil also served in the National Guard between tours of duty in the Navy. Prior to moving to Danville, Estil served as an elder at Bethel Church in Farmer City, taught Sunday school at Sidney United Methodist Church, was a member of the Sidney Lions Club, a Boy Scout leader in Sydney, served as an ESDA coordinator in Sidney for many years and was an amateur radio operator who enjoyed making new friends over the radio from all corners of the world. He also played golf until he was 96.
Estil retired from the University of Illinois, where he worked in the Coordinated Science Laboratory. He was always happy to help anyone in need and spent many of his retirement years helping others. His advise to us would be to “Make America Great Again!”
