Hans Hinrich Pein

 Hans Hinrich Pein passed away at the age of 83 in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 23, 2025.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2025 at Morgan Memorial Home, Savoy. Burial will held at 1:00 p.m. Monday with military honors at the Danville National Cemetery, Danville, IL.

Hans was born on November 9, 1941 to Minna and Hans Emil Pein in Pinneberg, Germany. He married Linda Blobaum in 1969; they divorced in 1992. He is survived by his sister Linda Sagemann of Hamburg Germany, daughters Gretchen Pein (Michael Faullin) and Christina Pein, grandchildren Roxy Todd of Champaign, Maxwell Baloun of Birmingham Alabama, Lily Skiles of Tuscaloosa Alabama, Trenton Faullin and Trey Faullin (Karisma Saymiknha), all of Champaign. He was preceded in death by sisters Annelies and Leni and grandson Trevor Faullin.

After studying animal husbandry in Germany, he traveled to the United States to work on his Uncle Rudolph’s dairy farm in Poughkeepsie, New York. He learned English by reading the daily newspaper and carried a German-English dictionary in his pocket at all times. Hans played soccer with Blau-Weiss Gottschee, a semi-pro New York team in the American Soccer League in the 1960s. He was drafted into the US Army while awaiting his green card and completed boot camp at Fort Dix, subsequently earning the M60 Expert Badge, the M14 Expert Badge, and the M14 Sharpshooter Badge. His service as part of the 4th Infantry Division in Vietnam earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was wounded in combat and experienced significant exposure to Agent Orange during his time in southeast Asia. Following his recovery, he became a Naturalized American Citizen. His identity as a soldier was salient throughout his adult life, and he tried to help as many veterans as he could. In his later years he was a fixture at the Danville VA Medical Center.

Following his military service, Hans returned to the states and settled in West Chicago Illinois, where he completed a degree from DuPage Horticulture School and met his future wife, Linda Blobaum. Upon graduation, he returned to upstate New York to work in a greenhouse. Hans was fiercely independent and was meant to be his own boss - one of his signature phrases was “there’s the right way, the wrong way, and my way” - so in 1972 he and Linda, their infant daughter and their Yorkshire Terriers moved to rural St Joseph, Illinois. It was there that Stanton Greenhouses was established.

Stanton Greenhouses employed many throughout thirty years: recent immigrants, locals throughout central Illinois, college and high school students, and anyone who couldn’t otherwise catch a break in life. If you were ready to work, Hans would give you work. He also provided extended learning opportunities for numerous DuPage Horticulture School and University of Illinois student interns. He graciously donated plants to various community organizations, nursing homes, and schools. He worked closely with the University of Illinois Horticulture Club for 20 years, providing space for plant production and hands-on instruction to club members. The 2001 Hort Club Mom’s Day Flower Show was dedicated to him. He also helped establish the Urbana Farmer’s Market, and Stanton Greenhouses was a consistent vendor for many years.

In his retirement, Hans spent many hours managing the athletic fields and grounds at the High School of St Thomas More and received a volunteer award for his efforts. He briefly worked in the Lowe’s garden center in Champaign. For many years, he provided landscaping consultations freely to friends and acquaintances and patiently answered many houseplant care questions.

Hans was an avid fisherman and traveled to his “second home” in Manitoba, Canada at least once each summer and made many lifetime friends there. He loved to bring relatives or central Illinois friends along for the experience and always returned to Illinois with loads of Northern Pike and Walleye. He was also an excellent bowler. He competed in the American Bowling Congress Championships in 1974, was awarded an American Bowling Congress 300 Game Watch, and was inducted to the Champaign County Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2001. Golfing was another passion; Hans was a long-time member of the Urbana Country Club and spent many, many hours socializing and perfecting his skills on the golf course.

Hans did not know a stranger, and he leaves many friends and even more memories. Whether he was bartending Zsa Zsa Gabor’s parties in the Catskills, meeting new people on European cruises, attending Stammtisch at Rigg’s Brewery or driving his golf cart through the neighborhood, he had advice and a story for everyone.

Dorothy Bruns

 

Dorothy Bruns, 102, of Gifford passed away at 8:00 A.M. Saturday March 22, 2025 at Country Health and Rehab, Gifford.

 Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday March 26, 2025 at St. John Lutheran Church, Royal. Pastor Emil Blobaum will officiate. Burial will be in Kopmann Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the church.

 Dorothy was born March 3, 1923 in Rantoul Township. The daughter of Eilt and Antje (Miller) Bruns. She married Claas H. Bruns on September 14, 1956 in Thomasboro. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2002.

 She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers John, Robert and Edgar. 2 sisters Minnie Bergman and Annetta Osterbur.

 Dorothy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Royal. 

 Dorothy and Claas farmed near Royal until 1987. When they retired they moved into their house in Royal. She was a devoted farm wife and homemaker. She was always willing to help anyone in need.

Dustin E. Morgan

 

OTOMAC - Dustin E. Morgan, 40, of Potomac passed away at 11:25 p.m. Tuesday (March 4, 2025) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, after a battle with cancer.

Dustin was born on April 12, 1984, in Urbana, the son of Donnie and Teresa (Sanders) Morgan.

He is survived by his significant other, Beth McCall of Potomac; daughters, Ali Morgan, Brooklyn Morgan and Ryah Peters of Potomac; sons, Lane Morgan, Kolton Morgan and Beckham Peters; his father, Donnie (Kristi) Morgan of Potomac; mother, Teresa Morgan of Savoy; brothers, Derek (Amy) Morgan of Ogden, Jason (Michelle) Morgan of Mahomet and Jaycen (Katie) Herndon of St. Charles, Mo.; sisters, Brittany (Kal) Lutz of Broadlands, Brianna (Patrick) Gones of Sidney and Rae-Ann (Matt) Jones of Chatham; maternal grandparents, Dawn and Glen Sanders of Mission, Texas; paternal grandfather, Jim (Barb) Morgan of Tilton; aunts, Glenda (Rick) Estes of Danville and Cindy (Paul) Burow of Rantoul; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Darlene and Richard Ren; and aunts, Becky Ashcraft and Lori Byrnes.

Dustin graduated from St. Joseph High School in 2002 and later began his apprenticeship for the union. He worked for 20 years as a heavy-equipment operator for Local 841. He enjoyed activities such as hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, golfing and, most importantly, spending time with his children. Listening to music and socializing with friends were also important aspects of his life.

A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Potomac Community Building, with Pastor Dan Hunt officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial will follow the service in Potomac Cemetery.

Vernelle Frances King

URBANA - Vernelle Frances King, 94, of Urbana passed away at 4:31 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2025, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. 

She was born on Aug. 1, 1930, in Loda, the daughter of John and Frances (Parsons) Walker. She married Thomas King on Sept. 5, 1948.

Vernelle is survived by her three children, Larry King and Linda King, both of Urbana, and Diane Scott of St. Joseph; seven grandchildren, Laurie Waterman, Callie King, Tricia King, David Smith, Jason Scott, David King II and Jennifer Butts; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A brother, Dean Walker, also survives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; son, David; her parents; brothers, George Walker and Gary Walker; and sisters, Verneta Havener and Sandy Brewer. 

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 21, at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mayview. Hank Sanford will be officiating.

Helen M. Feder

 RANTOUL - Helen M. Feder, 100, of Rantoul went to be with the Lord on Tuesday afternoon (March 18, 2025) at ClarkLindsay, Urbana.

She was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Compromise Township, a daughter of Robert August and Mary Caroline (Wagner) Feder.

Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Edna, and a cousin, Bernice, with whom she shared a sisterly bond, as she was raised by Helen's parents.

She is survived by a great-niece, Jackie Meyer; a great-nephew, Jeffery Schrank; and another great-niece, Julie Ann (Schrank) Dortch.

She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Thomasboro, and she had a strong faith. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and spending time with friends. She was the kindest of souls and lived a simple, frugal life.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, Thomasboro. The Rev. Michael Stoerger will officiate. Burial will follow in Beckman Cemetery. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service at Peace Lutheran.

Thomas C. Berry

 

Thomas C. Berry Age 72

Born July 15, 1952 and passed March 16, 2025. Thomas passed away at home, in St. Joseph Illinois, with his family at side. Tom was born in Bloomington Illinois to Thomas and Anna Berry. He served in the US Army. Tom belonged to the plumbers and pipe fitters Union and worked at Bridgestone Firestone tire factory in Normal Illinois. He is survived by his wife, of 53 years, Diana, and daughter Cynthia (Albert) Nachowicz and grandchildren, Melanie and Cole.

Ronald "Ron" C. McElwee

 Ronald “Ron” C. McElwee, 87 formerly of Sidney passed away at 5:17PM, Friday, March 14, 2025 at Hawthorn Inn, Danville.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday March 22, 2025 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sidney.  Freese Funeral Home, St. Joseph is assisting with arrangements.

Mr. McElwee was born August 29 ,1937 in Sidney.  A son to Claude and Helen Trees McElwee.  Surviving are nieces and nephews: Mike (Diane) Hamer of St. Joseph, Teri Hamer of St. Joesph, Julie (late John) McElwee-Kuhn of St. Joseph, and Buddy (Faith) McElwee, and 10 great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister; Marilyn (Earl) Hamer and twin brother; Don (Evelyn) McElwee.

He grew up in Tipton and attended a one room school house where he was responsible for getting the wood for the school house for warmth in the winter.

He was a superintendent in construction for various large jobs all over the country.

He owned BMW Motorcycles and rode all over the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico.  He also was a pilot and co-owned and Cessna.  His real love was for his two dogs, Muggsy and Bugsy.

Betty Jean Shepherd

 

Betty Jean Shepherd, 98 of Ogden passed away at 10:10 AM Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Country Health Care and Rehab, Gifford.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Muncie Baptist Church with Pastor Todd Creason officiating.  Burial will be at Stearns Fithian Cemetery, Fithian.  Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Tuesday at the church.  Freese Funeral Home, St. Joseph is assisting with arrangements.

Mrs. Shepherd was born on the family farm north of Fithian on February 6, 1927.  A daughter to Roy F. and Marie Mills Eichhorst.  She married Vere M. Shepherd on November 5, 1944 in Muncie.  He preceded her in death on June 18, 2008.

She is survived by a daughter; Teresa “Terry” (Dale) Miller of St. Joseph, a son; Kenneth (Ivy) of Albuquerque, NM, four grandchildren, Lisa Marie Miller of Brownsburg, IN, Dr. Andrew Miller (Dr. Steven Koether) of Fort Worth, TX, John Shepherd and Sam Shepherd of Reno-Sparks, NV, a great-granddaughter; Isabella Koether-Miller, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her parents, a son; Max (Myong) Shepherd and a brother; William (Ethel) Eichhorst.

She was a member of Muncie Baptist Church and served there faithfully for over 80 years.  She helped Vere on the farm for 20 years until he went into insurance when she became his secretary/bookkeeper.  In 1981 she began studying nursing, her passion, and earned her LPN in 1983, retiring from nursing in 1998.   She loved and enjoyed all of her family, especially the grandchildren and great-granddaughter.  She also enjoyed reading and knitting.

Marie Ileen Hoveln

 RANTOUL — Marie Ileen Hoveln, 89, of Rantoul passed away Monday, March 10, 2025 at home.

Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday, March 18, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gifford, with Pastor Gary Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow in Kopmann Cemetery, Royal. Baier Family Funeral Services, Flatville, is assisting the family with arrangements. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the church.

Marie was born Jan. 28, 1936, in Gifford, the daughter of Mike and Elfrieda Hesterberg Schluter. She married Alvin Hoveln on Sept. 19, 1954, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gifford. He preceded her in death Nov. 22, 2010.

She is survived by two sons, Ron (Sarah) Hoveln of Syracuse, N.Y., and David (Karla) Hoveln of Clayton, Del.; daughterin- law, Marie Hoveln of San Diego; five grandchildren, Julie (Alex Rockdashil) Hoveln, Jason (Stacey) Hoveln, Victoria (Matt) Almond, Joshua (Brittany) Hoveln and Colin (Kelsey) Hoveln; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn (Larry) Miller; and two brothers, Alvin (Evelyn) Schluter and Marvin Schluter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; son, Steve Hoveln; brother, Lawrence Schluter; and half-brother, Henry Schluter.

Marie graduated from Rantoul Township High School in 1954. She was an administrative assistant in civil services at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul for many years before retirement.

Marie was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gifford. She loved to bake pies for others.

Judy A. Fults

 Judy A. Fults, 79, of Savoy died at 4:20 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2025, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive, Savoy. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Urbana.

Mrs. Fults was born Feb. 9, 1946, in New York, New York. She was the daughter of Earl and Gladys (Taynor) Rosenbery. She married Robert Fults on Dec. 18, 1986, in Urbana. He survives.

Survivors include children Brad (Pam) Fults of Indianola, Jeff (Janet) Fults of Penfield, Tammy (Bill) Fletcher and Pamela Navarro, all Summerfield, North Carolina; a brother, Pete (Robbie) Rosenbery of Carterville, Illinois, along with several grandchildren and nieces and nephews. With her time on earth over, she is joining her parents and an older brother, David (Nancy) Rosenbery of Mahomet, in heaven.

She graduated from Mahomet-Seymour High School in 1964. For much of her life before retiring she worked at the University of Illinois in central receiving. She loved to play the piano. In her adolescence and for most of her adult life prior to health concerns, Judy was a carefree, loving person who would do anything to help someone and who always looked for the good in everyone.

The family would like to extend a deep appreciation to family friend Cathy Webb and the Carle Hospital nurses and staff, in particular Dr. Robin Varghese, for their overwhelming compassion these last few weeks.

Janice Manzo

 Janice Manzo, age 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 13, 1946, in Homer, Illinois to Lawrence and Kathryn (Davis) Rowand.

After graduating from high school, she attended Eastern Illinois University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968.  Janice met her future husband Joseph “Joe” Manzo through a close mutual friend just as Joseph was preparing to return home to Cleveland Ohio. Five months later, they were married on May 21, 1977.

 They started their life together in Illinois and had their only son Jared in 1980. Janice was inspired by the nurses who cared for her during her maternity stay and decided to pursue a nursing career. In 1983 Janice graduated with a nursing degree from Lakeview Medical Center in Danville, Illinois.  Janice worked in various roles, including as a school nurse, a county nurse, and in private practice with a family practitioner who taught her the true meaning of patient care.

Joe’s career relocated the family to Wichita Falls, Texas and later San Antonio. In 2015, Janice and her husband moved to Tennessee to be closer to their son. There they became members of their church home, Hendersonville First Baptist Church. Janice volunteered with the Nashville Rescue Mission and the local library.

Janice traveled all over the world including tours of Turkey, Greece, and Isreal.  As much as she loved to be on the go, you could often find her sitting with a cup of tea, engrossed in a mystery novel.

 Janice is preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Kathryn Rowand, and brothers James and Joseph Rowand. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Joseph Manzo, son Jared, and his spouse Lauren, along with numerous friends and family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 3-5 pm at Hendersonville Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 5 pm in the Chapel at the funeral home. Janice will be laid to rest in Homer, Illinois, at a graveside service on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 1 pm at the Davis Cemetery in Fairmount, Illinois.

Molly Lynne Hackney

 Molly Lynne Hackney, 79, of Homer, passed away on her birthday on March 4, 2025 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment next to her husband, Howard, at GAR Cemetery columbarium will take place at a later date. Homer Funeral and Cremation Services, 708 S. Main Street in Homer is assisting the family.

Molly was born March 4, 1946 in Danville, the daughter of Drexel and Goldie Clapp Clatterbuck. She married Howard Hackney on September 9, 1966 in Oakwood, IL. They celebrated 58 years together before Howard’s passing. He preceded her in death on September 9, 2024.

Survivors include her son, Terry (Mary Jo) Hackney of Wake Forest, NC; daughter, Sherry (Sheppy) Cler of Tolono; grandson, Hayden Hackney; and brother, Billy Clatterbuck.

Molly was also preceded in death by her brother, Mark Clatterbuck.

Molly retired from the University of Illinois after many years. She was a long time Homer resident. Molly will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lyndsay Holman Phillips

MUNCIE — Lyndsay Holman Phillips, 45, of Muncie passed away at 4:34 p.m. Monday (March 10, 2025) at home.

Funeral services will be at 2p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery, Catlin. Visitation will be from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Lyndsay was born May 10, 1979, in Danville, the daughter of Randall Holman and Laurie (Dukes) Holman. Lyndsay married Michael Phillips Jr. in October 2006, and from this marriage she was blessed with her two daughters, Alivia Grace and Alaina Rose Phillips, who were the light of her life.

She is also survived by her mother, Laurie (Gary Danenhower) Holman of St. Joseph; father, Randall (Sue) Holman of Tennessee; two sisters, Lacey Holman of Ogden and Brandy (Riley) O’Grady of Lexington; niece and nephews, Devin and Charlie O’Grady, and Maddon Hausle.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Donald L. and Betty J. Holman, and maternal grandparents, Charles and Grace Dukes.

Lyndsay was a hard working ball of energy who worked for the U.S. Postal Service, The Apple Dumplin’, The Hideaway and she was also a licensed hairdresser. She was known for her big heart, never met a stranger, and her wacky fashion sense with a sarcastic T-shirt for any occasion. She was a loving daughter, loyal sister and everyone’s friend.

Lyndsay enjoyed listening to music and is rocking with Tom Petty now. “Who is the love, is the truth, the truth and I will be forever.”

James R. Mumm

 SIDNEY — James “Jim” R. Mumm, 76, of Sidney passed away Saturday (March 1, 2025) at home, surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be on Monday, March 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. with funeral services Tuesday, March 11, at 10 a.m. at Freese Funeral Home, Sidney. Graveside services will immediately follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Sidney.

Jim was born July 22, 1948, the son of Russell and Lillie Mae (Taylor) Mumm, in Urbana.

He is survived by his three children, James (Niclole Elliot) Mumm Jr. of Sebring, Fla., Ryan (Tosha) Mumm of Sidney and Stefanie (Andrew) Siemsen of St. Joseph; three grandchildren, Julianne (Storm) Slaybaugh of Alva, Fla., and Ayden Siemsen and Sofiya Siemsen, both of St. Joseph; two great-grandchildren, Lakeyn and Braxton Slaybaugh of Alva; and one sister, Connie Mumm of Fort Myers, Fla.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his brother, Steve Mumm; and sister, Jackie Hawk.

He was a graduate of St. Joseph-Ogden High School and attended United Electronics Institute in Kentucky. He was a member of the Army National Guard. Jim retired from University Asphalt in Champaign and farmed with his brother, Steve.

Jim cherished the time spent with his grandchildren at all their sporting events, as well as tinkering around the house with them every chance he could. He loved spoiling his new great-grandchildren on all their visits with new baby dolls, toy trucks and Christmas trains. He was avid antique collector and enjoyed sharing his latest finds with family and friends. His most special moments were spent every day with his beloved dogs, Pearl, Macy, Dallas and Jenny. He was very generous with all his harvests from his garden to everyone and was always the first person to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Mark E. McClain

 ST. JOSEPH — Mark E. Mc-Clain, 62, of St. Joseph passed peacefully at home, with his family by his side, on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025.

Mark was born in Urbana to Carol Reynolds and Robert McClain. He graduated in 1980 from Centennial High School. He later joined the Navy and was an aviation electronics technician. He served aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.

He was employed at Colwell and in 2001. He took the position of internal technology specialist at Parkland College until his retirement in 2004.

Mark was an experienced boater and loved boating at Lake Shelbyville. He also enjoyed dirt-track racing, drag racing, NASCAR, Cardinals baseball Illinois basketball and football.

Mark had the highest respect for his country, military and veterans.

He was preceded in death by his mother, his only brother and his grandmother.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn McClain; sons, Josh (Kris) McClain of Farmer City, Kyle (Heather Harlan) McClain of St. Joseph and Jerod (Amanda) Wycoff of Alabama; father, Robert McClain; stepfather, Curtis Wheat; sister, Autumn McClain; sister-in-law, Barbara McClain; grandchildren, Taylor, Cole, Lorllii, Bella, Daniel, Konnor and Brooks; and special family friend, Robert (Amber) Drake.

A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 710 N. Neil St., Champaign. Officiating will be Pastor Eric Friedmann. Visitation will be from 9 to 11a.m. at the funeral home. As per Mark’s wishes, cremation will follow services.

Betty Miller Ehmen Medrow

 

ST. JOSEPH — Betty Medrow, 85, of St. Joseph passed away at 10:18 a.m. Sunday (March 2, 2025) at home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 10, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 802 E. Douglas St., Joseph. Pastor Andrew Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Kopmann Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 to 5p.m. at the church. Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, is in charge of arrangements.

Betty was born July 1, 1939, in Stanton Township, the daughter of Herman and Emma (Carmien) Miller. She married Donald W. Ehmen on Feb. 14, 1960. He preceded her in death May 20, 1981. She married Daniel Medrow on Aug. 28, 1994. He preceded her in death June 8, 2019.

She is survived by her children, DeAnn (Kenny) Buhr of Flatville and Daniel (Laura) Ehmen of St. Joseph; five grandchildren, Travis (Melissa) Fruhling, Tanna (Greg) Suits, Emily (Brandon) Williams, Taylor (Alex) Heape and Kinze (Devin) Raup; 10 great-grandchildren; her brother, Larry (Evelyn) Miller of St. Joseph; two stepchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, David; sister, JoAnn Busboom; in-laws, Bill and Emma Ehmen; and nephew Randall Busboom.

Betty was a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in St. Joseph.

She worked at Montgomery Wards, Collegiate Cap and Gown and as a waitress and pie baker at Bidwell’s. She retired from Carle after 25 years.

Betty was a former 4-H leader, member of the St. Joseph Women’s Club, Card Club and numerous church groups. Betty proudly hosted numerous Thursday night get togethers. She was active attending her grandchildren’s activities and loved to host Sunday night family dinners at her home. Betty was famous for “Betty Pies.”

Larry White

 CHAMPAIGN — Larry White, 79, of Mahomet died Sunday (March 2, 2025) at Haven of Meadowbrook, Champaign.

He was born in Champaign to Carl and Hazel Lewis White on Oct. 11, 1945. He graduated from Urbana High School in 1963 and then from Greer Trade School in Chicago. He was a material handler and a member of the Machinists Union.

He was a hard worker and took pride in being honest and treating people fairly. His cat, Muffy, held a special place in his heart and was his inspiration.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and a sister.

Graveside services for Larry will be held on Friday, March 7, at 11 a.m. in GAR Cemetery, Homer.

Jeffrey Ray Wilson

 Jeffrey Ray Wilson, 57, passed away peacefully at his home in Mahomet on February 27, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 10, 1967, in Urbana, IL, he was the son of Clifford Eugene and Ruth Ann (Harmon) Wilson, who preceded him in death.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Jeff’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Wilson; his children, Nichole (Jason) O’Neill, Wesley (Patrick) Bissell, and Daniel Wilson; his cherished grandson, William Bissell; and grand dogs, Callie, Zoey, and Winston. 

Jeff’s love extended beyond his immediate family—he deeply valued his close-knit circle of extended family and lifelong friends, who were like family to him.

Jeff grew up in Urbana and graduated from Urbana High School in 1986. He spent over 20 years working at ImpactLife, where he was passionate about his role and the connections he formed with colleagues and community members. Jeff had an incredible ability to make friends wherever he went, always ready to lend a hand and offer support in any way he could.

A man of many interests, Jeff found joy in music, cars, motorcycles, home improvement projects, and the outdoors. Whether listening to old country songs, camping under the stars, or setting off on a motorcycle adventure, he embraced life’s simple pleasures. Known for his sharp wit and signature sarcasm, he could bring laughter to any room and was always there when someone needed a helping hand.

Jeff’s warmth, humor, and generous spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. His legacy of love and kindness will live on in the many lives he touched.

Visitation will be held on March 5 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana, IL. A funeral service will take place on March 6 at 12:00 PM, followed by a procession to Mount Olive Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 Philo Road, Urbana, IL 61802.
