RANTOUL — Marie Ileen Hoveln, 89, of Rantoul passed away Monday, March 10, 2025 at home.
Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday, March 18, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gifford, with Pastor Gary Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow in Kopmann Cemetery, Royal. Baier Family Funeral Services, Flatville, is assisting the family with arrangements. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the church.
Marie was born Jan. 28, 1936, in Gifford, the daughter of Mike and Elfrieda Hesterberg Schluter. She married Alvin Hoveln on Sept. 19, 1954, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gifford. He preceded her in death Nov. 22, 2010.
She is survived by two sons, Ron (Sarah) Hoveln of Syracuse, N.Y., and David (Karla) Hoveln of Clayton, Del.; daughterin- law, Marie Hoveln of San Diego; five grandchildren, Julie (Alex Rockdashil) Hoveln, Jason (Stacey) Hoveln, Victoria (Matt) Almond, Joshua (Brittany) Hoveln and Colin (Kelsey) Hoveln; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn (Larry) Miller; and two brothers, Alvin (Evelyn) Schluter and Marvin Schluter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; son, Steve Hoveln; brother, Lawrence Schluter; and half-brother, Henry Schluter.
Marie graduated from Rantoul Township High School in 1954. She was an administrative assistant in civil services at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul for many years before retirement.
Marie was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gifford. She loved to bake pies for others.
