Dale Terven, 99 of Philo passed away at 9:00 PM, Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at VA Illiana Health Care System, Danville.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, Feb 12, 2026 at Countryside United Methodist Church, Urbana with Rev. Jeff Stahl officiating. Burial will be at Locust Grove Cemetery, Philo with military rites being accorded. Visitation will be from 5 to 7PM Wednesday at Freese Funeral Home, Sidney.
Mr. Terven was born October 24, 1926 in Colfax, a son to Jasper and Emma Jane Stinde Terven. He married Mary Sidebottom on December 5, 1948 in Bloomington, she preceded in death on April 15, 2021.
Surviving are six children; Dennis (Densie) Terven of Golconda, IL, Lonney (Sue) Terven of Monticello, Roger (Deanna) Terven of Sidney, Teresa (Rob Zachary) Williams of Urbana, Phil (Debbie) Terven of Monticello, and Craig (Teresa) Terven of Philo, 28 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three daughters; Angela Terven, Carol Smith, and Paula Wilson, a brother; Gerald Terven, and two sisters; Maxine Hertha-Winston and Phyllis Sweet.
He served in the United States Army during World War II. Then he went to school in Chicago to learn the trade of bending glass. He worked at Superior Neon Sign Company, Urbana bending tubed glass to make signs. He then went on to become an electrician installing the signs. He retired after 33 years of employment. He was a member of IBEW for over 66 years. He was also a member of Philo American Legion for 65 years and Countryside United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and family gatherings. Deer Hunting is Southern Illinois was his favorite. He was a Chicago Cubs and Illini Fan. He was so happy to see the Chicago Cubs win the World Series.
