Dale Reed Jr.

Champaign – Dale L. Reed Jr., 65, of Champaign passed away at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 25, 2012) at the Carle Foundation Hospital emergency room.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana, the Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Dale was born Jan. 5, 1947, at Danville to Dale L. Reed Sr. and Alta M. (Rice) Reed. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1965 and later served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He retired as a deputy sheriff from the Champaign County Sheriff's Department in 2004. Prior to that position, he had worked as an officer in the Champaign Police Department.
In 1991, Dale married Linda Weeks and she preceded him in death in 2004. His father also predeceased him. He is survived by his mother of St. Joseph; two children, Ryan M. Reed of Urbana and Tracey E. Keller of Villa Grove; a brother, Dennis R. Reed (Dana Finney) of Champaign; a sister, Karen M. Reed of St. Joseph; three grandchildren, Lindsay, Krysten and Zachary; two nieces; one nephew; an uncle; and several aunts and cousins.

ST. JOSEPH – Kathryn Yvonne "Bonnie" Reed, 83, of St. Joseph passed away at 10 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 23, 2012) at the Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday (Dec. 28, 2012) at the Church of Christ, St. Joseph, with the Rev. Tom Anders officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph.
Mrs. Reed was born Dec. 22, 1929, at Champaign, the daughter of James and Genevieve Crawford Roney. She married George Dale Reed on June 12, 1949, in Champaign. He preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1999.
She is survived by one son, James (Jan) Reed of St. Joseph; three daughters, Debbie L. Plankenhorn of Urbana, Kathy Schilson (Larry) Schilson of Sidney and Pam Yager of Homer; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Jesse "Ted" Walden; granddaughter, Heide Schilson; two brothers, James and Donald Roney; and one sister, Pat Thompson.
Mrs. Reed retired in 1990 as head cook at St. Joseph-Ogden High School with 20 years in food service.
She was an active member of the Church of Christ, St. Joseph, Elderberries seniors and St. Joseph Senior Citizens. She was a member of the Illinois and Indiana Horse Association and the Illinois State Stock Association.
She loved to camp and ride horses with her husband, having ridden many 100-mile rides together.

ST. JOSEPH – Mary Ann Prather, 80, of St. Joseph passed away at 11:40 p.m. on Dec. 11, 2012, at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 16, at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, with the Rev. Jeff Graham officiating. Burial was in Mount Olive Cemetery, St. Joseph.
Mary Ann was born Jan. 27, 1932, in St. Joseph, the daughter of Leroy and Clara McCarty Offenstein. She married Charles R. Prather on Dec. 24, 1952. He preceded her on Dec. 3, 2010.
She is survived by four children, David (Debbie) Prather of St. Joseph, Lynda (Jeff) Graham of Island, Ky., Richard (Karen) Prather of Geneva and Charles B.(Sue) Prather of St. Joseph; and nine grandchildren, Kristen Prather, Erik Prather, Joshua Graham, Jessica Graham, Justin Graham, Ryan Prather, Lauren Prather, Charles Robert Prather and Erin Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Mary Ann worked with her husband as owner operators of the St. Joseph Oil Co. from 1963 to 1995.
She loved to spend time with her family. Mary Ann enjoyed dancing, sewing and talk radio.
Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Fire Department.

BONDVILLE – Celebration of Life Memorial Services for Erma H. Young, 78, of Bondville will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Bondville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jerry Nichols will officiate.
The family will greet friends following the service.
Burial will be private at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Young passed away at 5:30 p.m. Monday (Dec. 17, 2012) at her home.
She was born March 23, 1934, in St. Joseph, a daughter of Harry and Gladys (Parson) McElwee. She married Marlin D. Young on Feb. 14, 1954, in Bondville. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2001.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, a brother, a brother-in-law and a grandson, Keith Alan Place.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Young was employed for 25 years as a congressional caseworker for the U.S. House of Representatives, working with Congressmen Ed Madigan and Tom Ewing.
She was a member of the Bondville United Methodist Church.
Helen enjoyed playing Euchre and Hearts with friends and Cribbage with her companion, Bob Oakes. Helen was a loving and giving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Mrs. Young is survived by a daughter, Debbie (Jeff) Place of Bondville; two sons, Marlin D. (Holly Jo) Young Jr. of Ogden and Douglas Young of Marathon, Fla.; a sister, Lola Gamble of Whitestown, Ind.; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Please join Helen's family in sharing memories and a dinner at the Bondville United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21. The family requests that in lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions be made to the Bondville United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.

ST. JOSEPH – Daryl A. Vinson, 90, of St. Joseph passed away at 6:16 p.m. Monday (Dec. 17, 2012) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, with the Rev. Paul Dinges officiating. Burial will be in Patterson Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Daryl was born Oct. 19, 1922, at Bondville, the son of Glenn and Selma Thrush Vinson. He married Dorothy Marsh on Feb. 21, 1952, in St. Joseph. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy (Curtis) Weller of Lincoln, Neb., and Christine (Brian) Schurter of Rantoul; and four grandsons, Timothy Weller, Geoffrey Weller, Jacob Schurter and Nicholas Schurter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steven Vinson; and one brother, William Vinson.
Daryl was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in 1940. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois in 1947 where he earned a place on the Bronze Tablet.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II with the 186th Artillery Battalion.
Daryl farmed in the St. Joseph area all his life. He served on the Stanton Center School Board and as ditch commissioner in Stanton Township. He was a member of the St. Joseph United Methodist Church.
