Caleb Huls

 ST. JOSEPH — Caleb Huls, 27, died at 10 p.m. Thursday (June 16, 2022) in rural St. Joseph.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Flatville, 2498 County Road 2100 East, Thomasboro. The Rev. James T. Lehmann will officiate. Burial will be in Stanton Friends Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in Diers Hall at the church. Baier Family Funeral Services, Flatville, is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn A. Scott

Marilyn A. Scott, 90, of Champaign passed away Sunday (May 29, 2022) at Champaign Urbana Nursing & Rehab.

Marilyn was born Dec. 3, 1931, in Decatur, to Leo R. and Mildred M. Cozad, and graduated from Deland-Weldon High School in 1949. She married Dr. Thomas G. Scott in 1959 in Urbana, where they lived for a number of years raising three children. She went on to live in various places during her adult life, including Corvallis, Ore., Golden, Lakewood and Fort Collins, Colo., Liberty, Mo., and Champaign. Marilyn was a proud member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood in Lakewood for 40 years. She also worked as a Realtor and finance manager during her career in the Denver metro area. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading and trying to keep up with the activities of her large extended family.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Mildred; husband, Tom; daughter, Janice; four brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include her two sons, Jeff (Cathy) Scott of Divide, Colo., and John (Julia) Scott of Bowie, Md.; six grandchildren, Kelly Marshall, Stephanie, Nickolas, Eli, Stirling and Isaac Scott; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Marilyn will be laid to rest in Mt. Olive Cemetery next to her husband. Services will be private.
Donations can be made to the Dr. Thomas G. Scott Achievement Fund at the Oregon State University Foundation, Corvallis, OR 97331.

John E. Bolt

John E. Bolt, 87 of St. Joseph, IL, passed away in his home on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

He was born in Atwood, IL on September 18, 1934 to Eugene and Margaret (Randall) Bolt.

John was a mechanic for the United States Air Force. He was stationed in England where he met and then married is wife Patricia E. Fitt on November 10, 1956 in Lowestoft, England.

He said that she is the best thing he ever got in England. Patricia passed away from cancer in 2013.

John retired from Fairhall Elevator Industry where he installed elevators for many years in several hospitals and buildings in central Illinois and surrounding areas. He then continued to work in maintenance for Busey Bank.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, wife, 2 brothers, one sister and one great grandchild.

He is survived by his children, Cindy (Tim) Brown St. Joseph, IL, Dave (Elisa) Bolt, Champaign, IL, Betty (Tony) Kite, Urbana, IL, Lori Marshky St. Joseph, IL, Margie Farmer (Vinnie) Cape Coral, FL. and a sister Margie Fryman, Mattoon IL.  9 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

John was a jack of all trades; he enjoyed working on cars and carpentry.  He could do almost everything by himself; whether it was adding an addition to the house, electrical work or doing car repairs.   He enjoyed spending time with all his family.

A celebration of life will be held by the family from 4pm - 6pm on May 7th at 903 Silver St., Urbana, IL.

Jerry Wayne Duckworth

 HOMER — Jerry Wayne Duckworth, 66, passed away peacefully at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, on Sunday (June 5, 2022).

He was born June 10, 1955, the son of Ruth Babb and Andy Duckworth and stepson of James Babb. 

He is survived by his girlfriend, Elizabeth Holloman of Homer; son, Kyle (Allison) Duckworth of Danville; stepsons, Robert Holloman of Homer and Michael (Jamie) Holloman of Bloomington; nine grandchildren, Jackson and Maibry Duckworth, Lizzie, Aliya, Robert and Blakely Holloman, Bailey, Kaitlyn and Natalie Holloman; as well as a great-grandchild, Alton McCormick.

Jerry was known for his love of cardinal baseball and joke-telling. We will miss him greatly.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 10, at Joines Funeral Home, Villa Grove, with the funeral to follow directly after at 11 a.m.

Martha Hurt

 Martha Hurt 96, of Fishers, IN formerly of Allerton passed away at 8:10 P.M. Thursday June 2, 2022 at Hamilton Trace of Fishers.


 Graveside services will be at 2:30 P.M. Sunday June 12, 2022 at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Allerton. visitation will be held from Noon to 2:00 P.M. at Freese Funeral Home 302 E. Grand Ave. St. Joseph prior to the graveside service.

 Martha was born December 30, 1925 at Spring Valley, Il the daughter of Hobart Clay and Florence (Purcell) Robinson. She married Eli H. Hurt in 1946. He preceded her in 1996.

 She is survived by her son John (Kay) Hurt of Iowa. Four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Two sisters Florence Rennolds of Tucson, AZ and Sarabeth Ford of Sidell.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Nancy Kelley and several brothers and sisters.

 Martha taught school in Allerton and Ogden for many decades.

 She retired to Ft. Meyers Beach, Fl . When she lived in Allerton she was active in the Allerton Methodist Church.

George R. Hill

 George R. Hill, age 92, of St. Joseph, IL, passed away Monday, May 30, 2022, at Carle Hospital. 


 George was born on November 26, 1929, in Villa Grove, IL. He was the fourth child of John and Eva (Shafer) Hill.  His family moved to St. Joseph when he was a child, and that is where he graduated from high school in 1947.  He married Clara Ann Roessler on September 20, 1953.  They were married for 65 years.

George was employed at the University of Illinois Physical Plant for 32 years.  In addition, he did some construction work with his brother John Hill and worked on the family farm with his brother Gene Hill for many years. 

George enjoyed his hobbies.  He was an avid skier who took many trips with the Champaign Ski Club and with his family.  In addition, anyone acquainted with George knew he traveled extensively on his BMW motorcycle, including trips to BMW bike rallies, Alaska, and all western states.

George was a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in St. Joseph.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in St. Joseph.

George is survived by his son Terry Hill (Kim Blair) of St. Joseph, IL; his daughter Laura Woodard of Fitchburg, WI; grandson Jared Hill of Iowa City, IA; grandson Alex Brownstone (aka Matthew Woodard) of Los Angeles, CA; and granddaughter Michelle Woodard of Fitchburg, WI.

George was preceded in death by his dear wife Clara Ann Hill, his parents John and Eva Hill, his sisters Fae Kiifner – Jackson and Margie Reynolds, and his brothers John A. Hill and Gene O. Hill.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church located at 802 E. Douglas Street, St. Joseph.  Pastor Dennis Meyer will officiate.  Burial will be at Stanton Cemetery. Prior to the service on June 11, a visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  

 Freese Funeral Home 302 E. Grand Ave. St. Joseph is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Youth Mission Trip or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

George will remembered by his family and friends as a humble, kind, and generous person.
