Easton Dean Wilsey

Easton “E” Dean Wilsey was born May 12, 2014, to Brooke and John Ross Wilsey and into an

amazing community of family and friends who loved and adored him dearly.

Easton was a fantastic athlete just like his parents, Aunt Taylor, Uncle Michael, Grandpa Lonnie

and many others before them. He excelled in football and baseball but found his true love in

wrestling where he, Brooke, John Ross and little sister Avery spent so many of their weekends.

They also loved swimming in Grandma Debbie’s and Grandma Andy’s pools on hot summer days

and watching the Royal Giants win a game or two.

Not only was E an amazing athlete but excelled in school as well. He had perfect attendance

and was super diligent about his schoolwork, ensuring all homework was done and all tests

were studied for. As a 4th grade student at Prairieview-Ogden Elementary School, he was a role

model and beloved by students and teachers alike.

Easton’s most amazing attribute, however, lay within his heart. His patience and empathy were

never-ending, and he cared for everyone. Most of all, he was genuine at heart and in mind. He

was simply one of the most amazing individuals that his family and friends had the pleasure of

knowing.

Easton is survived by his parents, sister Avery Wilsey, maternal grandmother Debbie Freeman,

paternal grandparents Andy & Randy Cooper and Jeff & Judy Wilsey, uncle Micheal (Gabi)

Wilsey, aunts Missy (Ronnie) Siegel, Jennifer (Chad) Duncan, Taylor (Ryan) Bird, Megan (Kyle)

Zindars, cousins, Addi Siegel, Raylin and Nash Duncan, Tayleigh and Josie Bird, Kopelan Wilsey,

and Caden and Casen Zindars, and, Godparents Jennifer Acton and Tyler Flessner, numerous

great aunts, uncles and cousins along with more friends and family than can be counted. He was

preceded in death by grandfather Lonnie Freeman, great grandfather Dean “Dean-O” Pearson,

great grandparents Dick and Joyce Freeman, Marjorie and Clifford Wilsey and Patricia and Earl

“Bud” Schneider, uncle Larry Freeman, great uncle Jim Wilsey and cousin Shandy Wilsey.

Easton was taken from us all too soon. While we are heartbroken and will never understand the

how’s or why’s of the event that lead to this, there is one thing that we do know and that is

Easton is in a far better place than the rest of us.

E, until we see you again, please say hi to Grandma Jocey, Grandpa Dick, Grandpa Dean-O,

Grandpa Lonskie, Uncle Jim, Cousin Shandy and Uncle Lars. Also, please keep all of them in line

as we can all only guess what kind of trouble that group is causing up there.

Until next time, Buddy, we love you.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday September 12, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church, Royal. Pastor Jay Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Royal. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the Royal Community Building.

Freese Funeral Home 302 E. Grand Ave. St. Joseph is in charge of arrangements.

Patrick Otto Madigan

Patrick Otto Madigan, 85, of Longview, IL passed away on August 31, 2023 at home on the family farm after spending the day surrounded by his family. Pat was born July 2, 1938 to Paul J. and Marie L. (Struck) Madigan at Mercy Hospital in Urbana, IL.

Pat graduated from Villa Grove high school in 1956. While in high school, Pat earned many honors on the football field. He was captain of the 1955 VG Blue Devils football team, listed on the Okaw Valley All Star Team, All Area Team and Honorable Mention All State at Tackle. He attended the University of Miami for two years, then was called home to run the family farm with his brother Phil for the next 60 years before retiring and enjoying the winter months in Florida with his brother Dave and life partner, Deb Brooks.

Pat believed in leaving this world a better place than he found it. He encouraged his family and friends to do the same by being actively involved in their community. Pat served his community as a long-time member of the Longview volunteer fire department, a member of the Longview Civil Defense team, and a local Boy Scout leader. He was the Raymond Township Republican precinct committeeman and a member of the Champaign County Republican Central Committee. Pat served as the Raymond Township Drainage Supervisor. He also served on the Board of Directors for Villa Grove Bancshares, Inc. Pat was an avid outdoorsman with memberships in Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. He shared his love of hunting and wildlife conservation with his children and grandchildren.

Pat lived the farmer’s life and always worried that he shorted the family of his time. What he didn’t realize is that we cherished our time sitting on tailgates eating supper with him, spending hours riding shotgun in the John Deere tractors and one “junk” IH tractor, learning to drive grain trucks and watching the augers and corn crib elevator buckets move the grain that he and Uncle Phil had poured their heart and soul into for years. His dedication to his family and the family farm were appreciated by us all. As the family celebrates Pat’s life, they wish for all who knew him to raise a glass of Jack and Pepsi with “not much ice” in his honor to toast a long life well lived.

Pat is survived by his life partner, Deb Brooks of Champaign; his children Erin (Phil) Partenheimer of Newman, Michael (Sinéad) Madigan of Urbana, and Mary (Mark) Richars of Newton; grandchildren Audrey (Tony) Cler of Royal, Meta (Amanda Hodges) Partenheimer of Boston, Emilie (Jonathan) Simon of Star Prairie, WI, Anna (Hayden) Fiedler of Clayton, OH, Grace Madigan of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Eisla Madigan of Urbana, Will (Lexy) Richars of Newton and Kate Richars of Little Rock, AR; great grandsons Emmet and Chase Cler; and his brothers Phil (Sue) Madigan of Villa Grove and Dave (Carol) Madigan of Champaign.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents and his former wife and mother of his children Myrna J. Madigan.

Private family services were held at the Joines Funeral Home in Villa Grove, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Family Service of Champaign County, 405 S State St., Champaign, IL 61820. https://www.famservcc.org/donate.

Michael Ingram

SIDNEY — Michael Ingram, 71, of Sidney, surrounded by his loving family, went into the open arms of Jesus Christ and his parents on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11a.m. at Sidney Christian Church, Sidney. The funeral service will be at 11a.m., with the Rev. Doug Krukewitt and the Rev. Barry West officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sidney. Freese Funeral Home, 202 W. Main, Sidney, is in charge of arrangements.

Mike was born on July 25, 1952, in Quincy, the son of Lozelle and Ilean (Thomas) Ingram. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Suzanne Gaston, on Dec. 29, 1971, in Mt. Sterling. She survives.

He is also survived by his children: daughter Jeannette Marie Hulick of Tolono; son David Michael Ingram and daughter-in-law Renee Cozzolino of Urbana; sister Linda Ingram of Urbana; honorary sister Susie Brown of Urbana; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nico, Ivy, and Violet. He also leaves behind many other cherished family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents and his son-in-law, Brad Hulick.

Mike grew up in the corn and soybean fields of Mt. Sterling. His father Lozelle, a beloved fixture of the Mt. Sterling area, instilled in Mike from a young age the value of self-sufficiency and a solid work ethic, traits that would serve Mike well in his long career.

Lozelle also loved cats and passed that deep love of cats and all animals to Mike, who had more cats throughout his life than you could count.

Mike graduated Parkland College in Champaign in 1975. Throughout his lengthy career, he helped create and perfect myriad electronic technologies. He helped pioneer some of the earlier wildlife radio tracking collars used to track everything from wolves to falcons. He worked on bleeding- edge technology for use in the military. He worked on instrumentation that made its way into outer space. He was a key member of a team that helped create an advanced cellular cytometry platform. He was, in short, a brilliant engineer who contributed his absolute best to every employer he ever had. Everywhere he worked he made close friends for the rest of his life, and was known for his dedication, ingenuity, humor, humility, and loyalty.

Mike always said that marrying his wife, Suzanne, was one of the greatest decisions of his life. He also said that Suzanne was the strongest woman he ever knew and she lived up to that declaration for their entire marriage. She selflessly cared for him during his last years and loved him fiercely and unwaveringly, and he treasured her even if he sometimes grumbled about doing physical therapy or the other things she urged him to do to improve his health.

He always knew how to fix absolutely anything and passed on much of his “fix-it” knowledge to his children, including how to change car parts, operate power tools, and the many uses for duct tape, as well as instilling in them a problem-solving mindset, an understanding of the importance of hard work, and a drive to do your best professionally. He also modeled how to take care of your family in ways both great and small.

He taught his children the value and delight of making things by hand, introduced them to the pleasures of a vast array of music, from Count Basie to James Taylor to Stevie Ray Vaughan, and passed on to them his love for and interest in animals of all kinds. He also introduced his children to the hilarity of British comedy, gave to them his passion for science fiction, fantasy, and mysteries, and taught them to appreciate big cities, small towns, the great outdoors, fine dining, state fairs, fast cars, a wellcooked steak, and all things chocolate.

Because of him, his children developed both the intellect of their minds and the tenderness and sensitivity of their hearts.

He loved and treasured his four grandchildren. They made him a special book for the Christmas of 2021. Some of their observations follow. “I love your”: jokes, funny stories, silliness. “I love that you taught me to”: fix problems, be silly, be kind and caring, not give up on things. “If you were a type of pie, you’d be”: chocolate with way too much whipped cream on top. “Thank you for”: Always making me smile and laugh, being the best granddad, always being there to tell a story or help me out, your kindness and faith. “I love how you always say”: ‘Get outta here!’. “It makes me smile when you”: play with cats, give me hugs, are silly.

When he first met his daughter-in-law, he made her feel part of the family immediately and showed much trust in her by suggesting she drive the 8-passenger golf cart at the Christmas tree farm outing to pick a Christmas tree. He signed every card for the last 16 years, “yer other dad” and he made this sentiment felt for the last 23 years.

He also showed his love in his compliments of her cooking, baking, advocacy skills and assertiveness, mothering and her love for his son. His love and acceptance was felt by her beyond measure all these years and especially in how fiercely he loved his grandchildren, unconditionally.

In later years, Mike strengthened his faith and love of Jesus Christ through attending and serving at Sidney Christian Church, where he made many good friends.

In his life, he survived a horrific car accident, cancer, addiction, surgeries, and many other trials. He most definitely had an angel watching over him his entire life. Some say he had nine lives. Whether that’s true or not, his family and friends are so grateful to have had the blessing of his love and presence in their lives for so many years, and only wish he had had a few more.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Sidney Christian Church, Restoration Urban Ministries, and CATsNAP (Champaign Area Trap Spay/Neuter and Adoption Program).
