HOMER – John Edward Umbarger, 57, of Homer passed away at 9:03 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 14, 2014) in Homer.
He was born on July 8, 1957, in Champaign, the son of Robert and Maxine Burton Umbarger.
Survivors include his parents of Homer and one brother, Ronald (Lynda) Umbarger of Homer.
John graduated from Homer High School in 1975 and lived in Homer all of his life.
He was a member of the Homer United Methodist Church and also the Homer Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He was a volunteer who helped maintain the G.A.R. Cemetery in Homer.
There will be a service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at Kirby Funeral Home, 708 S. Main St., Homer. Rev. Terri Shane will officiate. Burial will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Homer.
There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Homer Fire & Rescue.
