CHAMPAIGN – Lena Fern Silkey, 94, of Champaign passed away at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday (March 8, 2017) at Country Health in Gifford.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 13, at G.A.R. Cemetery, Homer. The Rev. Patty Wise will officiate. Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, is in charge of arrangements.
Lena was born on June 17, 1922, in Vermilion County, the daughter of Urvan and Lena Maude Myers See. She married Joseph Silkey on March 10, 1945. He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 2012.
She is survived by her son, Leslie Silkey of Champaign; and sister-in-law, Irma Keith of Danville.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marianna Quterman and Minta Marie Konradt.
Lena enjoyed music and played several instruments, violin, guitar and piano. She was a member of the Boots and Bows Square Dance Troop.
She graduated from Oakwood High School in 1940. She lived in Tokyo, Japan, in 1947-48 with her husband.
