Thea Maria Osterbur Franzen

 ST. JOSEPH – Thea Maria Franzen, 100, of St. Joseph died at 1:30 p.m. Monday (Oct. 16, 2017) at Country Health Nursing Home, Gifford.
Mrs. Franzen was born on Oct. 15, 1917, at her parents' home in rural Royal. Thea was the daughter of Simon L. and Anna Huls Osterbur. She married Oltman Franzen on Feb. 16, 1938, in Royal. He preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 2005.
Survivors included her children, Loren (Carol) Franzen of St. Joseph, Doreen (Roger) Woodworth of Tolono and Leslie (Elaine) Franzen of Farmer City; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and two more on the way; and a sister, Emma Bluhm of Ogden.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Hannah (Albert) Franzen; brother, Louis M. (LaVerne) Osterbur; brother-in-law, Alvin Bluhm; and one grandchild, Sara Franzen.
Thea was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Royal. She was the oldest member of the church. She taught Sunday School, belonged to the Women's Circle Bible Study and the sewing circle.
Thea helped her husband on the family farm.
Thea's family celebrated her 100th Birthday on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017. One day later she passed peacefully with her children by her side.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Royal, or St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Royal.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at St. John Lutheran Church, Royal, with Pastor Emil Blobaum officiating. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Royal.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph. Viewing will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church in Royal.
