Merle K. Sage

Merle K. Sage, 83, of Thomasboro passed away peacefully at 11:55 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2018 at OSF Medical Center, Urbana surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Flatville with Rev. James T. Lehmann officiating. Burial will follow in Beckman Cemetery, Rural, Rantoul. Baier Family Funeral Services, Flatville is assisting the family with arrangements.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, in Diers Hall, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Flatville.
Merle was born at home near Royal on February 8, 1935. He was the son of George and Lena (Wolken) Sage. He married Sylvia Albers on March 17, 1956.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, of 62 years; four sons, Gary (Sue), Perry (Marcia), Danny (Sheri) and Troy (Maria). He was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce (Sage) Strait.
Merle was a lifelong farmer and dedicated member of the I & I Antique Tractor Club. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors and a couple of trucks in his free time. Merle served as a volunteer firefighter with the Thomasboro Fire Department for 27 years and later was a trustee. He served on the Thomasboro School Board for six years and was a former board member of the Thomasboro Grain Elevator.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Flatville where he served as a council member. In his death he was a Gift of Hope donor.
Merle was a farmer until the end and loved keeping an eye on his boys going from farm place to farm place. He will be greatly missed.
