Dorothy J. Gordon VanCamp

Dorothy J. (Gordon) VanCamp, 84, of Danville, Illinois and beloved wife of Larry W. VanCamp transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 5:25pm surrounded by her loving family at Accolade Healthcare of Danville.

Born on May 4, 1938 in Danville, Illinois, she is the daughter of William M. and Orlis L. (Parsons) Gordon. She was married July 6, 1959 in St. Joseph, Illinois to Larry W. VanCamp, who survives. Together they cherished 62 years of marriage.

She is a mother to 4 children, grandmother to 4 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 6 great grandchildren whom she loved and adored.

She will be sadly missed by her 4 children, Dory Bates of Oakwood, Illinois, Carol Fuentes, Larry (Carrie) VanCamp II, and Robert VanCamp all of Danville, Illinois. Four grandchildren, Benjamin (Kelly) Walsh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Anthony Fuentes, Jr. of Danville, Illinois, Christopher (Tiffany) VanCamp of Clinton, Indiana, Allison (Thanh Le, fiancé) VanCamp of Urbana, Illinois. And six great grandchildren, Landon VanCamp, Preston Fuentes, Alivia Fuentes, Nora VanCamp, Henry Le, and Emmitt Le. Also surviving is her sister, Love Sisson, of Danville, Illinois, along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, 1 brother, Bill Gordon and 3 sisters, Elsie Ponder, Virginia Leigh and Flora VanValkenburg.

Dorothy took on life as a great leader being an encourager to others in good times and bad. Some of her fondest memories in her life were as a Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader when her daughters were school age. She also treasured the relationships she made with many while being a TOPS member in the Danville #315 chapter. She was an elected officer for many years.

Later in life Dorothy would start each morning enjoying coffee with her husband. He doted over her and gladly made her world a better place in numerous ways. She enjoyed conversation reminiscing on what it was like growing up in Danville with her family as a child. She always had a listening ear and offered sound advice to any who asked. She was a great matriarch to the entire VanCamp family as well as a great friend to many throughout her life. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The VanCamp family would like to extend a gracious thank you to OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center staff of doctors and nurses in ER and 4 E/W and OSF Hospice. Also the entire staff at Accolade Healthcare. Their care and tenderness with our Mom is most appreciated.
