Janet Marilyn Hatfield Haggerty


 Janet Marilyn (Hatfield) Haggerty was born into eternal life on August 11, 2024, at Heritage Health in Hoopeston, IL, the daughter of Eustace Jennings and Josephine Mary Rose (Royer) Hatfield.

Janet is survived by three sons, Joseph Jr. (Karen) Haggerty, Mark Haggerty, and Michael (Gina) Haggerty; five daughters, Barbara (Daniel) Hoeft, Jean French, Elizabeth (Todd) Cessna, Alice (Roger) Jackson and Linda Berry; 26 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Dolores Gross; brothers-in-law, sisters-in law, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Janet was proceeded in death by her husband, Joseph Sr.; son, Patrick Gerard; daughters, Karen Anne and Rita Lynne; her parents, Eustace & Josephine Hatfield; sisters, Phyllis Hatfield and Jacquelyn Farris.
Janet was born in Chicago, IL, on May 18, 1935. She graduated from St. Columbanus Grade School, 1949; Morgan Park High School,1953; Chicago Teachers College (Chicago State University),1957 where she received her B.E. Degree in Kindergarten-Primary Education. She taught in Chicago Public Schools for 3 years then substituted and tutored in Parochial Schools for 1 year before retiring to rear her family. From 1989 to 1995 she served as administrative assistant to the President of Demeter, Inc in Fowler, IN; the Hoopeston Public Library from 2003 through 2006, then provided elder care and housekeeping services.
Her hobbies included serving others, especially her family, any type of sewing, craft, home renovation work and enjoying her wonderful children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She traveled many miles over the years supporting all of her children and grandchildren in all of their activities.
Throughout her life she lived to serve others. She served in a wide variety of offices and on boards in many church, school, hospital, athletic, thespian, city, county, political and good-will organizations. Janet was an active member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Hoopeston, IL 1969-2014, and St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Urbana, IL since 2014.
Visitation will be held at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston, IL, Saturday, August 17th from 10am-noon, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 423 S. 3rd St., Hoopeston, IL at 12:30pm. Burial to follow at Floral Hill Cemetery, Hoopeston, IL.
