Trudy Lee Johnson

Trudy Lee Johnson entered the world on April 27, 1951, as the youngest daughter of 5 children to Jacob and Virginia Herrenknect. She left this world suddenly on October 23, 2024.

Trudy is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Roy; daughter, Candy (Brad); stepdaughter, Angel; and brother Jim (Linda); along with 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, and a brother.

Trudy will always be remembered as the one who was there for you when you needed her and as one of the hardest working women around. During her 35+ years at Horizon Hobby, she was the “go to gal” who could solve and fix every problem.

Her family will remember her as the glue that held the family together. She was always there to pull you up and help in anyway, anytime we were in a difficult situation. Trudy enjoyed her time building memories with the family while traveling in the RV to and from Talladega, AL, swimming in Lake Mattoon, and drinking Captain and Diet Coke by the pool.

Trudy was the one to make sure that everyone else was taken care of, before herself. She always made sure to that we knew she loved us; from the best hugs to the hand holding pat. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Freese Funeral Home, Sidney.

Linda Sue Hadley Marsh

Linda Sue Marsh (Hadley),66, of St. Joseph, woke up in Heaven with Jesus at 5:15am on Tuesday (October 22, 2024).

Linda’s journey earth side began on January 25th, 1958 in San Antonio, Texas. She was the first daughter of Donald Hadley and Lucille (Wildermuth) Hadley. The family moved back to central Illinois when Linda was a year old and she graduated from St. Joseph-Ogden High School (SJO) class of 1976.

Bradley D. Marsh swept Linda Sue Hadley off of her feet and they were married on June 27, 1981 in Urbana; he survives. Together, they built their home on a farm in rural St. Joseph where they raised their 2 children, Sheryl & Andrew.

Linda enjoyed various jobs over the years but her passion was caring for, not only her own children & Grandchildren, but any child! Every little one she had in daycare was loved as one of her own.

Being a Mother & Grandmother was so special to Linda and she poured her heart into creating special memories with them. Her granddaughter Indira will always remember playing card games & how grandma Linda usually lost at them! Alyssa (My Boo, as she was affectionally called) will never forget Grandma being the loudest “cheerleader” in the stands! Olivia will be reminded of grandma Linda every time she eats banana bread as she enjoyed baking it together with her. Linda’s grandson Maddyx always enjoyed BINGO night, that Grandma did, with all the cousins. And Coltyn could never get enough of grandma Linda’s spaghetti dinners!

Linda’s smiling face was among the crowd at almost every sporting event, music concert, dance recital or theatre event that her children & grandchildren had. Her presence at those events will be missed very much.

The cornerstone of Linda’s life was her faith in her savior, Jesus Christ. In 2019 when she was diagnosed with rare appendix cancer; her faith that God was in control gave her peace that passed all understanding. Her faith never wavered. Isaiah 26:3 “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” God was the anchor for her soul that provided security in the waves of life. Linda always enjoyed the waves, the beach, the lake or any body of water! That was her happy place for relaxation.

Proceeding her in death was her Father, Donald Hadley. Her mother, Lucille Hadley, of St Joseph, survives and is left with many wonderful memories of her daughter! They loved watching the Illini basketball games together with Linda cheering loudly, of course! (She did that for any sport she watched, especially football) Linda grew up going to the lake with her parents and her mother will never forget how Linda slalom skied. Lou and Linda both had a love of flowers and every spring they would go together to buy & plant flowers. These memories and traditions will always be close to Lou’s heart.

Also surviving is her sister, Nancy (Mark) Whitaker, of North Carolina; Linda’s husband of 43 years, Brad Marsh, of St Joseph; children Sheryl Robinson (Karl Last) of St. Joseph; Andrew (Kelsey) Marsh of St. Joseph; 5 grandchildren, Indira, Alyssa, Maddyx, Coltyn, Olivia, all of St. Joseph; as well as SO MANY other wonderful family and friends.

“When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and the manner in which you live” (Stewart Scott) Anyone that met Linda knew she lived for Jesus, her family & helping others. The polish pottery she passed down to us will be cherished as we use it. And we will try to make everything into a song just as she always did! Linda was a small woman but left a big impact on this earth. Her void will be felt everyday as we try to navigate this life without her beside us.

The family invites you to Linda’s Celebration of Life Service on Saturday October 26th at 4pm; Faith Baptist Church (4601 North Market St, Champaign) with visitation beforehand 1pm-4pm. Private graveside service & burial will be held Sunday October 27th.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to SJO High School Football, Cheerleading, Band or Drama department. (Donors choice) PO Box 890 St. Joseph, IL 61873.

Delbert T. "Del" Dahl

RANTOUL - Delbert T. "Del" Dahl, 84, of Rantoul, formerly of Urbana, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Flatville, followed by funeral services at 3 p.m. with Pastor Scott Smith officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, at Moss Ridge Cemetery, Carthage. Baier Family Funeral Services, Flatville, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Del was born Jan. 28, 1940, in Macomb, to Mary (Duffy) and Adolph Dahl.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Powell Dahl; sons, Cody (Ellie) Dahl of Valrico, Fla., and Jeremy (Jennifer) Colby of Edmond, Okla.; and daughter, Natalie Colby (Justin)Thomas of Philo. He couldn't have been prouder of his seven grandchildren, McKenzie and Sarah Claudia Dahl, Meredith and Stella Colby, and Zachary (Madison), Andrew and Henry Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Linda and Carol.

Del grew up in Disco, in Hancock County, except for three years spent in the Deerfield, Wis., area where his family moved to farm with relatives before returning to Disco. He showed dairy cows, acted and sang in theater productions, sang in the choir and graduated from La Harpe High School as class president and valedictorian. He was active in FFA and 4-H, and he spent his adult life giving back to the programs that had benefited him in so many ways.

As a UI student, he was the president of the IlliDell House, sang in the UI choir, and was a member of the Men's Glee Club. He graduated with B.S. and M.S. degrees in dairy science, and began his career as an assistant cooperative extension advisor in Stephenson County. But Del was an especially gifted writer, speaker and teacher, and he found his true calling when he joined the staff of the UI Extension Editor's Office on the UI campus in the 1960s.

In his 43 years as an agricultural communications professor and department head, he helped shape the lives and careers of generations of UI students. Del had a saying: "Give me kids who can think, and I can teach 'em how to write." For years, he coached teams of student interns who provided press coverage of the 4-H and FFA shows at the Illinois State Fair. They learned how to crank out accurate, well-written news stories on a tight deadline. In return, he promised "$25 a day and all the dust you can eat." Del also did international extension work in Africa and the Philippines.

Del was an avid Illini basketball and football fan, and especially loved spending time with his tailgating friends. Del loved music, and his talent brought joy to many over the years. Those who heard him often praised his musical abilities, particularly his voice and his ability to play almost anything by ear on the piano. As an internationally recognized poodle handler and breeder, he published Poodle Review Magazine and wrote a book titled "The Complete Poodle." He loved friendly competition, and also showed and bred dairy cattle and quarter horses. Win or lose, he was always ready to share a Jack and Coke after a competitive show - either back at the crates or among the stalls.

His favorite moments of all, though, were the ones he spent with Sara, Cody, Natalie, Jeremy and the grandkids - celebrating their successes and supporting them in whatever they chose to do. He was always there for them.

Del belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Flatville, "the cathedral in the cornfield," where he sang in the choir.

Memorial gifts may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Flatville or Hancock County Extension.

He was proud to be of Norwegian descent, and he would surely appreciate it if friends would enjoy some lefse in his memory this Christmas Eve.

Stanley Louis Drake

FARMER CITY — Stanley Louis Drake, 61, who grew up in Farmer City, died suddenly and unexpectedly of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm on Sept. 21, 2024, at his home outside of Republic, Wash., with his dog Bruno keeping vigil. Following his written instruction, he has been cremated.

His mother, Marylou Gillis, died just eight days before Stan. A joint celebration of life service will be at Trinity Community Fellowship, 1300 W. Clinton Ave., Farmer City, on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m. Stan’s burial will follow immediately in Maple Grove Cemetery, Farmer City, and is open to anyone who wants to attend. Family will continue on to Arcola for Marylou’s private burial.

Memorial donations are suggested to Blue Ridge JFL (PO Box 142, Mansfield, IL 61854) or to 7th Day Church of God Republic (70 Gold Mountain Road, Republic, WA 99166).

Stan was born in Bloomington on June 17, 1963, the youngest of the four children of Richard and Marylou Seaman Drake. He graduated from Farmer City-Mansfield High School in 1981, and later from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. Just a few years after Stan graduated from the UI, a newborn named Travis entered his life in need of a father figure, and Stan lovingly filled that role for the rest of his life. On May 3, 2008, Stan married Colleen LeMagie, thus joining her family of twin daughters, their husbands and their children.

Neighbor Tuck Whitehouse introduced the Drake family to boating when Stan was an infant and it was a big part of his life. Stan spent untold hours with family and friends boating and waterskiing. Vacations at Lake of the Ozarks were an indelible part of his life, and he bought his own home on the lake.

The Boy Scouts taught Stan life lessons, including camping in all seasons and living in the woods. At 13, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Serving his community continued as a volunteer firefighter when he lived in Broadlands.

Stan loved dogs and got his first dog while in high school. He became very good at training dogs, especially large dogs, and sharing his life with them. Football was an important part of Stan’s life, playing linebacker/fullback on his FCM team that lost almost every game until his senior year, when he and his fellow team captains led their Cinderella team to the conference championship. Stan went on to help inaugurate Farmer City’s Junior Football League (JFL) in the late 1980s as a coach who made football fun for the young players. He continued that fun-but-disciplined approach as assistant football coach at Heritage High School before moving to Lake of the Ozarks. His mantra was “There is no I in team.” He also cheered on the Fighting Illini and Chicago Bears through their bad years as well as good.

People were drawn to Stan and enjoyed being in his presence with his unique sense of humor, playfulness, intelligence and extensive vocabulary. He enjoyed doing things for other people, such as donning a Santa suit and beard to visit people of all ages. But appearances can be deceiving, and Stan followed some dark paths in his life. After much effort, he was able to put alcohol behind him and was pleased to receive his 20-year sobriety coin a couple of years ago. Stan wandered spiritually until finding his way back to the Lord just a few years ago thanks to friends in Republic. Though he didn’t attend church weekly, he diligently studied the Bible and devotions daily and used what he learned to point others to Christ’s redeeming love.

Stan is survived by Bruno; his wife, Colleen Drake of Republic, Wash.; her daughters, Leah (Bill) Sandlian of Buckley, Wash., and Annemarie Baker of Seabeck, Wash.; her grandsons, Keith Sandlian, currently of Buckley, Wash., before starting his U.S. Air Force assignment, and Kaleb Sandlian, stationed in South Korea with the U.S. Army; and her granddaughters, Chloe and Claire Baker of Seabeck, Wash. Also surviving are Travis Madix, his wife, Brittney and their daughter, Raylynn of Indianapolis. Stan loved being a grandfather. Also surviving are his sister, Stephanie Drake of Farmer City; sister-in-law, Pat Reilly Drake of Champaign; brother and sister-in-law, Stuart and Diana Drake of Cape Coral, Fla., plus their four children and four grandchildren, Martin and Carmen Drake and daughter, Muriel of Fort Collins, Colo., Clayton and Sarah Drake and children, Skyler, Bexley and Auggie of Lake Ozark, Mo., and Nicole Drake and Noah Drake, both of Cape Coral, Fla. Many cousins also have special memories of Stanley, the youngest cousin on both sides of our family.

Stan was predeceased by his brother, Stephen Paul Drake; father and stepmother, Richard K. and Joy Drake; mother and stepfather, Marylou and John G. Gillis; and all of his aunts and uncles.

The family are grateful to Calvert-Belangee- Bruce Funeral Home of Farmer City for their assistance.
