William M. "Bill" Black

 PAWNEE— William M. “Bill” Black passed away peacefully on Aug. 23, 2024, in Springfield.

Bill was born Oct. 17, 1949, to John A. Black Jr. and JoAnn L. (Fry) Black of Ogden.

Bill overcame childhood polio and went on to play high school football. After graduating, he eventually became a member of the Laborer’s Union Local 703 of Urbana and later Local 477 out of Springfield. Bill was an avid NASCAR fan, as well as a die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs, Fighting Illini and the Chicago Bears.

He married his wife, Rita, in Ogden on Nov. 13, 1981. She survives, along with his daughter, Kimberly Black; a son, Christopher Black; a granddaughter, Carlee Black; and a sister, Mary Black. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, E. Lynette Lemke; and a brother, John A. Black III.

The family will be hosting a celebration of life on Saturday, Oct. 19, at VFW Post 630, 1303 E. Main St., Urbana, from 2 to 4 p.m. Contributions may be made to his wife, Rita.
