ASHMORE – Albert Craig Jr., 93, of Ashmore passed away at 4:38 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 12, 2013) at Springfield Memorial Hospital, Springfield.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Freese Funeral Home, Sidney. Burial will be at Locust Grove Cemetery, Philo. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Craig was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Philo to Albert and Ethel Guard Craig. He married Thelma Ruffner on June 18, 1939 in Urbana. She preceded him in death on March 21, 1991. Surviving are three daughters, Donna Smith of Covington, Ga., Judy Fargusson and Darlene Fillenworth, both of Springfield; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard; and his parents.
He farmed in the Sidney, Philo and St. Joseph area. He attended Sidney and St. Joseph schools. He was employed at St. Joseph Grade School as custodian and bus driver for 30 years. He raised cattle, pigs and had a vegetable garden in Oakland after his retirement. He enjoyed collecting key rings. He loved his cat "Buck" and spending time with his family.
He was a member of Knights of Pythias in Sidney and St. Joseph, where he served in all chairs while a member and was also Chancellor of Commander.
Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society.
