Mildred Noreen Manual

ST. JOSEPH – Mildred Noreen Manuel was born to Lester and Pearl Potter in Red Top, Mo., on Jan. 16, 1921, and died on Aug. 12, 2015, in St. Joseph, Ill., at the age of 94.
Surviving siblings include her brother, Dean (wife Dolly) Potter of Buffalo, Mo., and her sister, Reva (husband Jim) Hill of Fair Grove, Mo.
She married Richard Burk Manuel in New Mexico in 1944; he died in 1988.
Surviving children are Linda McGill (Texas), Patricia Van Wicklan (New York) and Rex Manuel (Florida). Mildred had eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She retired from KDEB Fox 27 at 77 years of age. They called her a "Human Dynamo" and she was the 1993 Missouri Older Worker of the Year. Throughout 30 years, she never missed a day of work due to illness.
Mildred made a home in Arkansas, Illinois and Missouri. She moved back to her birthplace to take care of her parents, and then moved back to Illinois for her elder years.
She enjoyed traveling, gardening, knitting, crocheting and quilting. Quilting was her passion; she hand-pieced and hand- quilted hundreds of quilts. She completed her last quilt in the summer of 2014 and always had the next quilt planned out.
She loved her "poopy tail" Sparky, a Bichon Frise, who could always be found on her lap. She lived long and worked hard and was one of the strongest people you would ever meet.
Funeral services will be held in Missouri at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mildred's name to the Champaign County Humane Society.
Condolences may be offered at renner-wikoffchapel.com.
