ST. JOSEPH – Hilda F. Olson, 102, of St. Joseph passed away at 4 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 15, 2016) at Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at St. John Lutheran Church, Royal, with Pastor Jay Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, is in charge of arrangements.
Hilda was born on Jan. 3, 1914, at Royal, the daughter of John and Gebke Loschen Huls. She married Oscar E. Olson on Feb. 17, 1932. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1997.
She is survived by her son, Mervyn (Velma) Olson of Philo; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and daughters-in-law, Dottie Olson of St. Joseph and Norma Sherfey of Royal.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Vernon and Wendell Olson; and four grandchildren.
Hilda was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church of Royal. She was a farm wife helping her husband on the farm.
The family appreciates Hilda's home care women, Country Health Nursing Home staff and the nurses at Presence Covenant Medical Center for the care they gave Hilda.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or Country Health Nursing Home.
