CHAMPAIGN — Edgar Tingley, 89, of Champaign, formerly of Sidney, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 10, 2017) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at Sidney United Church with the Rev. Mike Picklesimer officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Sidney. Military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Freese Funeral Home, Sidney.
Mr. Tingley was born Dec. 7, 1928, at Longview, a son to Walter and Nellie Tapscott Tingley. He married Marjorie Toppe on Aug. 20, 1950, at Sidney; she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Tom (Cathy) Tingley of Sidney, Rick (Shelley) Tingley of Ankeny, Iowa, and Greg (Cheri) Tingley of Toledo, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Jennifer
Drennan, Laura Smith, Sara Stone, Tiffany Gross, Michael Tingley, Brian Tingley, Daniel Tingley and Bradley Tingley; 11 great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Jerry Berbaum.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dolores Berbaum.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Sidney United Church, Homer American Legion, Champaign County Farm Bureau and NRA.
Memorials may be made to Sidney United Church, GAR Cemetery in Homer or an organization of the donor’s choice.
