John Warters

HOMER — John H. “PaPa” Warters, 76, of Homer passed away at 9:29 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 17, 2018) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Kirby Funeral Home, 708 S. Main St., Homer. Pastor Ricky Spindler will officiate. Burial will take place in GAR Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
John was born Feb. 25, 1941, in Danville, the son of Herald B. and Wanda Elaine Chandler Warters. He married Barbara J. Hughes on May 28, 1961, in Champaign. She survives.
Survivors also include his daughter, Bonnie (Henrique) Cordeiro of Ludlow, Mass.; grandchildren, Chelsey (James) Campbell, Alyssa “AJ” Scott, Makenzie Gardner, Kayla Gardner and Tristan Gardner; nephew/son, Brent (Tonya) Gardner of Rantoul; and nephew, Dan (Kathy) Roberts of Tolono.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and son, John Herald “Butch” Warters.
John was a member of Stone Creek Church in Urbana and the Army National Guard. He played Santa for many years for Homer, Stone Creek Church, Heartland Nursing Home and various friends and families. He was a meat cutter and caterer for many years.
Memorials can be made to the family of John H. Warters.
