GIFFORD — Erna C. Albers, 87, of Gifford passed away at 5:40 p.m. Sunday (June 24, 2018) at Country Health Nursing Home, Gifford.
Erna was born May 24, 1931, at her parents’ home in Gifford, to William “Bill” and Margaret Saathoff Schluter. She married Henry Miller on Feb. 4, 1950. He preceded her in death June 1, 1965. She then married Dick Albers on July 1, 1967. He survives.
She is also survived by her children, Elaine (Gary) Busboom of Gifford, Eugene (Becky) Miller of Ogden and Barbara Albers of Danville; stepchildren, David (Chris) Albers of Champaign, Sandra (Terry) King of St. Joseph and Richard (Jody) Albers of Gifford; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Regina Gronewold; sisters-in-law, Vernette Schluter and Lorine Schluter; many nieces and nephews; and family friend, Diane Valentine.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Kevin Busboom; two brothers, Harm H. Schluter and Henry W. Schluter; 10 brothers-inlaw; and eight sisters-inlaw.
The family would like to thank the staff of Country Health, Gifford, for the care they gave Erna.
Erna was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Royal, the Royal Home extension. She liked to play cards and go to garage sales.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Alzheimer’s Association or donor’s choice.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church, Royal. Pastor Jay Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Royal. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, is in charge of arrangements.
