William F. Cole



WILLIAM F. COLE

On Wednesday, January 2, 2013, William Cole, age 90, of Springfield and Dale City, Virginia, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born on December 13, 1922 in St. Joseph, Illinois and lived there through his teenage years. He enlisted in the Navy in 1940, became a Lieutenant, and was awarded many medals for his service during World War II, the Korean War and the war in Vietnam. After WWII, he became a 32nd degree Mason under the tutelage of General Douglas MacArthur. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and motorcycling.
In 1943, Bill married Elaine Block, whom he knew since childhood, he was her adored husband until her death in 2008. Bill was the beloved and loving father of Pamela Paul (Norm), William J. Cole (Helen), and Deborah Cole; grandfather of Shawn Mijo (Anne), Brian Mijo (Amy), Aleesah Garcia Couey, Eileen McGuire, Daniel Cole, Diana Cole, and William A. Cole; great-grandfather to Jennifer Ramsey (Michael), Christopher, Calvin, Alex, Cheyanne, Katie, Lily, and Austin Mijo, Samuel Miller, Ashley, Sarah, and Grielle McGuire and William and Alex Cole; and great-great grandfather of Nicholas, Samuel and Daniel Ramsey and Sadie Aleesha Miller. Bill deeply loved his family and his many friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, VA on Saturday, January 5 at 4 p.m. Another Memorial service and internment will be held at Freese's Funeral Home in St. Joseph, IL next week.
