ST. JOSEPH – Amos Matthew Motsinger Jr., 78, of St. Joseph passed away at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday (April 3, 2013) at Country Health Nursing Home, Gifford.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Mount Olive Cemetery, Mayview. There will be no visitation. Freese Funeral Home, St. Joseph, is assisting with arrangements.
Mr. Motsinger was born Sept 26, 1934, in St. Joseph Township, a son to Amos Sr. and Cretta Motsinger. He married Elizabeth (Liz) Hill on Dec 20, 1953. She preceded him in death on June 18, 2001. Together they had three children, Amos III (Bud) (Trudy) Motsinger, Melia (Steve) Kingery and Dennis Motsinger. They survive. Also surviving are two step-grandsons and two great-grandchildren and a brother, Larry Motsinger. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister.
He was a well-known mechanic in this area. He retired from the City of Urbana.
He was dedicated to his community and served as village trustee for many years. He was also a volunteer fireman and later was a trustee.
H e loved to camp and fish and go to auctions and work on antique clocks.
His garage was always open for his friends to tell stories and visit old friends. He will be greatly missed.
