Scott E. Messman

SIDNEY – Scott E. Messman, 45, of Sidney passed away at 1:47 p.m. Saturday (June 11, 2016) at his home after fighting brain cancer for seven years.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 17, at Zion Lutheran Church in Philo. Pastor Christopher Thorson will officiate. Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Homer. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kirby Funeral Home, 708 S. Main St., Homer.
Scott was born on March 4, 1971, in Danville, the son of Jerry and Connie (Tracy) Messman. He married Amy Robards on Oct. 21, 1995, in Broadlands. She survives.
Survivors also include his daughter, Emma Messman of Sidney; his sons, Cole Messman and Cody Messman of Sidney; his parents, Jerry and Connie Messman of Homer; a brother, Steve (Susie) Messman of Philo; nephew, Kyle Messman of Urbana; niece, Brianna Messman of Philo; and maternal grandmother, Betty Tracy of Homer.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Gene Tracy, and paternal grandparents, Walter and Vera Messman.
Scott was a graduate of ABL High School and Parkland College.
He worked at Arends Bros. (which later became AHW) in Urbana as a John Deere salesman. He was a hard-working, dedicated employee who went beyond his job to help his farmer customers.
He coached 13- and 14-year-old boys in Sidney Youth League and later coached his own sons' teams in baseball and basketball. He played in a men's softball league for a few years. Scott was his daughter's biggest softball fan and coach since she was able to swing a bat.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Philo.
Family always came first. He was a great son, devoted husband and wonderful father. Anyone who knew Scott will miss his great stories and his ability to make people laugh.
