Lewis W. "Louie" Frerichs

RANTOUL — Lewis W. “Louie” Frerichs, 77, of rural Rantoul passed away at 5 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 13, 2019) at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center, Urbana.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Flatville, with the Rev. James T. Lehmann officiating. Burial will follow in Beckman Cemetery, Rantoul, with military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, in Diers Hall, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Flatville. Baier Family Funeral Services, Flatville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Louie was born Dec. 3, 1941, on the family farm in rural St. Joseph, the son of John H. and Anna Ackerman Frerichs. He married Diane G. Wienke on Aug. 2, 1964, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Flatville. She survives.
Along with his wife, Diane, he is survived by a daughter, Tracy Dye of Kansas; a son, Craig Lewis Frerichs of Rantoul; three grandchildren, Mara Shirar of Kansas, Wyatt Flesner of Oakland and Maddie Flesner of Kansas; and three sisters, Ilene Ackerman of Rantoul, Marilyn Frerichs of Royal and Beverly (Lester) Wolken of Thomasboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Louise G. Osterbur Frerichs; and two brothers, Herbert Frerichs and Mervin Frerichs.
Louie served in the Army National Guard of Illinois from 1963-1969. He worked for Shaff Machinery Company, Urbana, and retired in 2008.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Flatville. Louie enjoyed camping and fishing at Lake Sara, watching a good western, spending time with friends and baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals.
