Gerald “Jerry” E. Miner Jr.

ST. JOSEPH — Gerald “Jerry” E. Miner Jr., 78, of St. Joseph passed away at 11:37 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019, in Rockledge, Fla. Jerry was born Jan. 14, 1941, in Hinesburg, Vt., to Gerald E. Miner Sr. and Bernice Miner. He graduated from Hinesburg High School in 1959 and then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Vermont. Later on in life, he went back to school and received his master’s degree in business administration from Eastern Illinois University.
On June 13, 1964, Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Millham. Together, they moved to Rochester, N.Y., as Jerry began his career with Magnavox. While in Rochester, Jerry and Marilyn welcomed two daughters, Michelle and Lisa. In 1968, the family moved to Urbana and then decided to make their home in St. Joseph, which continued to be home for the remainder of their years. In 1973, Jerry and Marilyn welcomed their third daughter, Margaret.
During Jerry’s professional career, he worked for Magnavox, the City of Champaign, Kraft Foods, Teepak and the University of Illinois, where he retired from the Operations and Maintenance Division in 1999.
His wife, Marilyn, and his parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Montgomery (Eddie) of Ogden; daughter, Lisa Miner Miers (Michelle) of Rockledge, Fla.; and daughter, Margaret Sexton (Steve) of St. Joseph; grandson, Mark Montgomery (Jenna) of White Heath; granddaughter, Taryn Sexton, and grandson, Trevor Sexton, both of St. Joseph; and great-grandson, Jaxson Montgomery.
Anyone who met Jerry was always greeted with a smile, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved to travel, play golf, read, work on handyman projects, and most of all, spend time with his family and friends.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to St. Joseph Church of Christ or Holiday Christian Church.
A visitation will be held June 1, 2019, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church of Christ, 226 E. Sherman St., St. Joseph, with a celebration of life service at noon.
