James “Jim” Howell Ashley

ST. JOSEPH — James “Jim” Howell Ashley, 90, of St. Joseph passed away at 5:52 p.m. Monday (April 29, 2019) at home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Living Word Family Church, 1000 Park Ave., St. Joseph. Pastor Mike Mack will officiate. Burial will be in Patterson Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, is in charge of the arrangements.
Jim was born Feb. 11, 1929, in Effingham, the son of Virgil and Stella (Miller) Ashley. He married Betty Lee Ashley on Feb. 4, 1951, and they were married for 68 years. She survives.
He is also survived by his family: daughter Barbara (James) Albers and her children, Chandra (Chuck) Fryer, Daniel (Rachel) Albers and Kevin (Breana Wright) Albers; daughter Denise Patton and her son, Drew (Jess) Patton; great-grandchildren, Charlie Fryer, Owen and Holden Albers and Trenton, Colton and Garrett Patton; and sisters, Linda Nees and Elise Rueter.
Jim retired from Clifford Jacobs, Champaign. He was a member of Living Word Family Church, St. Joseph.
He loved his dog, Bud, and spending time with his family, camping and fishing. He enjoyed his church family.
