John was born August 16, 1935, in Tuscola, IL, the son of Harlen and Gabriella (Goodman) Basham.  He married Claudette (Shumate) Clevenger on April 26, 1979 in St. Joseph, IL.  She survives and resides in Urbana.

He is also survived by his children, Elaine Basham, Bakersfield, CA, Kevin (Pamela) Basham, Santa Clarita, CA and step-children, Lisa (Dave) Brooks, St. Joseph, Joe (Sheri) Clevenger, Chillicothe, Il, and Melanie (Mark) Wedemeier, St. Peters, MO; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Basham of Villa Grove; and three sisters, Florence Millage, Champaign, Alice Brooks, Summer Shade, KY, and Joyce (Frank) Tompkins, Champaign.

John was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kimberly; brother, James, and two sisters, Helen Whetsell and Betty Carnes.

John worked at SuperValu (J.M. Jones Co) for 20 plus years, as a maintenance specialist.  In his early years, John also worked for John Ennis Construction, building homes throughout Champaign County.  He served in the Illinois National Guard from 1958 to 1964.

Most of all, John enjoyed working with his hands and spent many years with his wife Claudette, tearing down old barns to make potting benches, birdhouses, and other decorative items.  Rustic Yardworks was their retirement passion and allowed many families to keep a memorable piece of the old family farm in their current home.

Memorials may be made to Michael J Fox Foundation (michaeljfox.org).
