James D. Griswell

ST. JOSEPH – James D. "J.D." Griswell, 73, of St. Joseph passed away at his home at 11:32 a.m. Friday (Feb. 23, 2018).
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.
J.D. was born July 26, 1944, in Indianapolis, the son of Elmo P. and Joy LaDonna Mackey Griswell. He married Cecelia "Cele" Nale on Sept. 11, 1965, in Homer. She preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 2003.
He is survived by his children, sons, Cliff (Diane) Griswell of Ogden, Rob (Brandy) Griswell of Palm Bay, Fla., and Doug (Tonya) Griswell of Danville; daughter, Amber (Mike) Rhoton of Ogden; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Ladonna Bange of Urbana; and one brother, Michael Griswell of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
J.D. worked 10 years in Indianapolis at Roadway Express, 20 years for Meadow Gold Dairy. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Zionsville, Ind.
He was a Little League coach, founding Youth Football Board member. J.D. didn't know a stranger and loved to make people laugh.
He loved his family and all his grandkids. J.D. enjoyed sports, fishing, family reunions and the Nale's hill.
Memorials may be made to the St Joseph-Ogden athletic fund.
